I am not convinced that any bass made in 2012 can truly replicate a bass made in 1964. Personally, I am not sure I want one that does. Vintage instruments can be over rated and have a "mystique" about them. But most were cheaply made instruments with electronics not made even specifically for that instrument.

Yes, they were cheaply made. You have to take the situation in post-war Germany into account - no-one could afford a Fender back then (even if they were available). These were made to be affordable by the general population.

In the case of the 185, the reissue is, IMO, a completely different instrument. It kind of resembles one, but nothing more.

Eduardo, Do you feel that you pickups are too hot for a signal? Mine overloads my amp's input. Hotter than an active bass!!

Try lowering your pickups. Maybe the pickup itself is distorting, not the amp. This can be caused by not enough clearance to the strings.

Or try another amp.

ecapdeville, you most certainly can. You are member 108. Welcome to the group. Nice CT!

I follow Curt Smith of Tears For Fears on Twitter- no stranger to the glory of a Hofner club bass, Curt- and he linked to this great old World Party clip. You can fwd. through the interview, but if you want to hear a really good Hofner sound, check this out:

What a great song, and the Hofner there is soooo characteristic. They sound just like that; fat and just a little tubby, but they fit in a mix great.
