Sorry,I forgot to mention it was used,but in exc.cond.It was German,at least it said so on the bass,both on the headstock and tailpiece.This also was hollow all the way.

The serial numbers on the German as well as the Asians, are on a paper sticker inside the bass under the control panel.
Thanks for that info.How easy is it to remove the control cover?Would that sticker also confirm it being German made?
If that is in fact a German bass, it should have 2 philips screws, one on either end. Remove the screws and lift the cover off. Be careful of the sharp edges of the switches on your finish. Maybe lay a piece of cloth across just below the switch plate, to lay it on.

I went into the music store to buy guitar strings.The LAST thing I ever thought, would/could happen,is that I'd be buying a Hofner!No knock on Hofners,I've always kinda liked them and I may own one in a few hours,I'm just saying...Nice bass,Sounds and played great,the bass is in near mint shape + great price(a steal).I am hooked at a time when I just,this week, bought a bass!The "great deal" part holds alot of sway here.
The store just opened at 10.I called,it is there,they are holding it,I am on my way down shortly to check it out again.They are cool with opening up the control plate to check the label.The wacky world of chasing instruments continues...I'll let you know and thanks to all for the help.
If the control plate has 2 screws, it is German or Contemporary. If it has 4, it is Asian. You have to check the label, if Asian, someone updated the control plate. If it's CT, you want to look inside also because it will have a very large sound block which will greatly affect how acoustic it will sound.
I guess its the price that raises questions about authenticity?Is it common for folks to try and pass non-German basses as German by dicking around with details.The neck had a made in Germany label and the tailpiece was stamped the same.It is hollow and I have seen Icons and this is no Icon.
The odds are, that it is German. I just looked at the german youtube and the paper label inside sez Germany. My Ignition label looks the same but does not say any country. The labels look pretty much the same otherwise.
The label is fairly simple. Plain beige with a hofner logo, a line for the model and a line for the serial number. The German has Germany right below the Hofner logo and the Ignition has nothing between the Hofner logo and the line with the model.
Also, you said black with gold hardware. If it's solid black and not transparent black, with gold hardware, that too would make me think German. But check the label.
Got the Club Bass!It is the real deal German made,2007.With tax it pushed close to $900,but I guess thats still a good deal.Can't do photos right now,but it is the same bass as the link I posted earlier.Came with D'addario rounds that have to go away.I am partial to TI flats,will their short/32" scale fit the Hofner?Anyway,I'm diggin it,I think its a score,wish I had more time to play it today.Thanks again for the advice and will post pics soon.
