My Vintage 1964 recently underwent a neck restoration earlier this year. Sometime during the it's ownership someone had converted it to a fretless.
I felt the need to bring it back to it's original state and glory.

NICE! How do the 58 PUs sound compared to the more common Hofner bass PUs?

Rob, to me the 58 PU's sounds like more of a flat balanced response tone compared to my 64 which seems much hotter. I did have my neck PU on the 64 rewound.

Good to know. That is a really beautiful bass. They both are, it's just that the 58 is more different from what I am used to. Maybe it is better for Jazz and Blues? Very nice bass!

For all you guys that own or have played the CT series, what's your take on them? I've given thought to getting a CT Club but haven't pulled the trigger yet. If they have the same feel and sound of the German made ones I think I'll need to give one a go.

Haven't played a German made one, but the CT series are pretty nice basses. Have a solid feel and great tone.

I played an early '70s Hofner and then I bought my CT Hofner based on that. It feels.. similar, but it's not the same. I haven't played a new RI to compare though. There's a little bit of a weight difference, but if you've played both you'll know. If not, you won't.

Today at the local music store,I played a black,German made Club bass, w/gold hardware. It has been a while since I played a Hofner and I was impressed.I tried to get some info but nobody seemed to know anything about it.We couldn't find a serial # anywhere on the bass, just a made in Germany sticker. They want $825 for it and it is in excellent condition.Any thoughts as to what year?Good deal?I know little about these.Thanks.

It's not German if they only wanted $825 for it. German models sell for over $2,000 new. Sounds like it's probably a CT.
