Honest Feedback On My Tone Needed! MM Sterling

Sounded great to me, your tone is absolutely perfect for the music you play. I didn't find it to loud, though it wouldn't have hurt to turn down just a hair, the bass didn't overpower anyone else and sat in the mix really well.

I find the tone pretty great for the music you're playing/accompanying. My personal taste is that your tone sounds a little too mid-present, especially high-mids. I settings with horns I prefer a little more mid scooped tone, but to each his own. Very tight playing, however. Kudos

I hear ya! I love the sound of a jazz for this style of music too...and i play one a lot.

I tried different P's for years. I dig them...but just not the right fit for me for some reason.

That's a non-Classic, single H Sterling?

What mode was it in? Series, Single Coil, or Parallel? I. E. Neck, middle, or bridge position on the switch?

Yes...just a regular MIA Sterling. The switch is all the way to the back (parallel) and the lows and mids are boosted literally just beyond the indent. The Shuttlemax had a slight boost in lows and high mids (1 o'clock) and the tweeter was centered (noon) or halfway.

I dig the guitarist. Hard to find guitarists who can groove like that. Usually they try to dominate the whole thing and that simply isn't called for here.

I dig your tone on the Sterling. But I also dug whatever you used in the 2012 videos, I assume it's some kind of jazz. It's different, but it also sounds good. It's really a case of what makes you feel good and gets you smilling.

I like that you keep some kind of bottom to your sound. Often, in this type of band, bass players will lose the bottom trying to get that top end shine. But you hung on to it, which is cool and functional.

The bass should be as loud as the guitar.

Anyone have a Sterling they want to trade for a jazz??

I like the fullness, but it's a little too aggressive for my tastes. And you're a touch loud.

Honest feedback? I dig it and wouldn't change a thing. It's punchy and full, and while up front it carries the funk with the drums. Nice chops btw!

Sterling = best bass ever. Ill always have a sterling especially for a cover band where I have to change tone on the fly with no volume changes . It's a beast

I would agree that Sterlings are vastly underrated and under appreciated basses both generally and within the TB community.

Great job! Maybe too loud bass overall, you could probably have dialed down to match the guitar and drums. But that's for the soundman to do right? Your job is to sound good and you did I'd go with a bit more bass and a little less mids

I'm thinking about shooting again with a more scooped tone for fun...thanks for the input!

A bit loud IMO, otherwise your tone is right on for that type of music.

I like your tone: the pitch is clearly discernible, it kicks like a mule, and there's no fret clatter, no string noise, no weird bees-buzzing upper-mid emphasis, and most of all, no slap!

First off, killer tune and playing! As far as tone, I thought it was great but sounded a little dead..... Read a couple posts down and saw the year old strings part. My vote is to slap a new set of strings on, do a little EQ work and see what happens.
