Horrible Stock Colors

Really? It's one of my favorites for basses - including my new one.

Well that green at the top I refer to as toothpaste green.

Perhaps. But there are typical toilet colors, especially in houses from the '50s through about the '80s. I hate those colors on basses and on cars.

Now that is a really weird combination!

Personally any of the spalted finishes looks like dog poo smeared over nice furniture to me, but then we've all got different tastes.
Some folks like poo.....

Colors are like notes. Its just a spectrum and some might be more naturally pleasing to ones eye as certain notes to ones vocal range.

None are inherently bad in and of themselves, but put a few too many together and it can get quite dissonant.

Speaking of "skulls" the basser for The Band of Skulls often plays an Antigua P

The first post instantly reminded me of them. Seen BOS many a time, great band, but i agree...Emmas P bass is a horrible colour!

Now having posted about liking Antigua & Champagne Gold (And I forget if I mentioned I love Burgundy Mist), but my preference is a finish where I can see the woodgrain--at least part of it--so sunburst, transparent, blonde, natural, or stained.

I love all kinds of finishes. I love colors in general. I do think certain combinations of colors clash in unpleasant ways, and I am personally not overly fond of "boutique coffee table basses" with highly-figured wood, etc. (Although there are exceptions to this--I dig the look of early Alembics, for instance.)

But most of your relatively common colors--pretty much any Fender finish--the metallics, the pastels, even sparkle/glitter/metalflake jobs--I like.

However, I've noticed that in my life whenever I have bought a guitar or bass in colors like that, I tend to part with it fairly quickly.

I know it may be very boring, and I DO like seeing funkier/flashier colors on other people's instruments, but for ME, the guitars and basses I tend to keep longer and never get tired of are either off white, black, natural or sunburst.

That said, the last bass I bought (it's in layaway) is dark blue. But I think it's a keeper. If I get tired of the color, I'll just refinish it.

Are you saying you're not sure how old you are? Or that you've spent time on some other planet.

Well that said I do have a soft spot for black Les Paul Customs--if it's not black it just doesn't look like a Custom--although the white ones are nice too.
