Damn, that's terrible. Not surprising at all though. I have a feeling we're going to have some dark orange skies this summer.

Lots of smoke in the morning sky here the last few days, and it’s been quite windy even by our elevated standards.

Heat will lead to a smoke season instead of summer this year. All those COVID masks will get reused as air pollution masks out here.
Been happening here in California for years now. We lost the town of Paradise a while back, which was not too terribly far from me.
The smoke and ash made me seriously consider moving elsewhere last year, but where would I go? There's no predicting which areas are going to flame up next.
The forecast for this Saturday is 113*. I have a really crappy outdoor show on the books for that morning. It will likely only be around 100* when we start. Hoping to convince someone to cancel it.
I would not be able to play a gig in those conditions. I am loving our more typical cool and overcast mornings, though I've noticed a slight cast to the sunlight in the afternoons, probably from fire smoke, though it's minimal.
Yes, I'm tired of being the complainer (read: person with common sense) so really hoping someone else speaks up about it before I have to put my foot down and refuse to go. I'm not playing in triple digits.

The gig did not get cancelled. We play from 10 to noon; the forecast for that time frame goes from 86 to 94 degrees F. By the time we finish load-out, it will easily be 100, but at least the "stage" time will be a bit more bearable. Not thrilled but I can't really beg off.
I don’t envy you. Here in Vancouver it’s dipped down to quite reasonable temperatures for now - 7:30 AM, overcast and 64° (roughly the mean temperature for this date and time here). I’ll take it over the 40° hotter peak of last weekend.
There's still a chance that we'll be cancelled but the closer we get to Saturday the less hope I have. The venue's posting about it on their FB page and I haven't heard a peep out of anyone else about the weather being a problem. Very happy for you that the weather there is cooler again!
I wish I could say it was all good news: the massive heat bubble is reportedly reforming (or has moved), and this time it’s going to hit southern Alberta and Saskatchewan, and I think the US states south of them. But locally I can’t help but like the fact that it’s cool enough here to be somewhat productive again.
My band's stripped down acoustic duo is performing outside at a winery tomorrow. Projected to be 108 in Lodi.
I'm bringing the portable evaporative cooler for them to use. Technically I'm running sound, but can do that on the iPad under a pavilion with AC and misters.
It's been nearly 100 in the Del Puerto Canyon area for all of this week.
Blissfully some of the work I've been doing on the shop/shed has been inside the air conditioned shop (maintained at 77 by a little 1200BTU window unit) the humidity has been about 10%
But cutting sheet stock, and building out machinery stands, outside, in the shade of a canopy, with that little evaporative cooler makes the short walk to the shed feel like a walk in Arizona. I can take heat. I lived in Victorville and worked construction.
It's just brutally hot continually this summer.
Back about 91 we had a summer like this in SoCal. Thankfully at the time I lived right on the ocean. The onshore breeze helped immensely.

Seems so counter-intuitive, doesn't it. We've been having hot, humid days here in St. Petersburg (Florida), but nothing like being reported in here and in the news.
Heat records are crumbling in Europe and Russia, too. St. Petersburg (Russia) is reporting record breakers, and in Sicily (Lived there for 3 years), 110F in the town of Lascari.
I did two 6-month cruises during the Desert Shield/Desert Storm period. Worked helicopter (SH-60B) maintenance, so was on the flight deck alot. The helo hangars and maintenance shop on one ship wasn't air conditioned (sucked). The weather folk (Aerographer Mates) took multiple daily readings with a unit they'd place on the flight deck. The day I asked about the readings, it registered 117F real temp, and with other factors (wind info, reflected heat, humidity, etc), the "feels like" result was 147F.
Each ship was good about setting weather conditions to limit time working outside the skin of the ship before having to get inside and cool off for 30 minutes or so. Sometimes, flight operations didn't allow that LOL.
Much younger then. Wears me out now to think about it LOL.

It's plenty tolerable here for now. It gets a little warm in the house by the end of the day, but the breeze blows that out pretty efficiently. It's still warmer than it should be in Seattle, but not by near so much. It's odd that the temperatures and weather in LA are very similar to what's going on here. Except that they have a minimal chance of getting showers, and we don't.
Only supposed to go up to 90*F here today. I'll take it. It's nice out right now and kind of breezy. I just had a video appointment with someone and was able to sit outside for that. Great day to throw the ball for the dog out there right now. The pool will be appropriate when it gets hotter.
If you want to know where all the water and rain missing in Canada and Western America went, take a look at Western Europe. We had +200l/sqm on Wed and Thu. 143 people died in Germany alone (to date) because of 36h continous rain and resulting flood. More victims in Belgium and Netherlands.
