How come some many people on TB seem to care what everyone else thinks about non-consequential things like hats, sunglasses, shorts, music stands, etc., etc., etc? When you think for yourself, you don't need to worry about any of these things.

Rule number 3 should be read the entire thread before posting anything. Ever. There's a good chance your pearls of wisdom have already been addressed.

1) Almost nobody looks good in Sunglasses and a fedora hat playing bass
They all THINK they do, but the vast majority really don't. ...... no matter the genre.

2) In an Orchestra setting people go to HEAR the music, not watch the performers (mostly). With rock music people go to SEE a show and hope the music is good. I promise you the music can suck if you put on a great show in rock. You can't put on a great show gazing at a music stand..... or your shoes.

3) Blues I'll grant you for the most part. But have you heard a country song in the last 2 1/2 decades? Nashville song writers these days are freaking great. I don't think you'll find many 3 chord country songs these days. It ain't Kenny Rogers and Merle any more.

4) A surfer would look dumb in jeans. Almost as dumb as a rocker looks in shorts.

5) Again, clearly you haven't listened to a country song in a long time. Please Google Nashville session bass player. Then tell me Michael Rhodes and those like him play two note bass lines. You have no idea what you are talking about. I have played all kinds of music. From jazz and pitt Orchestra to funk soul rock country pop R&B.... you name it. Some of my favorite bass lines are in modern country.

Kind of a silly notion really. We are in the entertainment business. Our success and (and many cases) livelihood depend on what others think of us and our work. Unless you just want to play in your bedroom, you had better give a crap what others think, at least a little bit anyway.
