How do you carry your small amp heads?

So far I have avoided this overly stressful dilemma entirely by only owning big heads .

If I had any game I would buy an ELF and find one of these to carry it around.

Alas, I am gameless ...so no need for the ELF.

I just started putting my EA Micro and Broughton P15 in the “premium” bag from pedaltrain that I bought for my metro 20. It’s got the perfect amount of room for the head and preamp along with a power strip and power and speaker cables. And then large extra pockets on the outside for tools, more cables, etc.

I toss it in a small backpack along with my cables and other stuff. The cables and bag provide sufficient padding.

One question to ask: How rough does your gear really get handled? I usually transport my own gear, in my own car, so there's just no way for it to get banged around. At the same time I'm not trying to keep stuff in mint condition for resale.

I have a Darkglass Microtubes 900, which has proven to be a curious item to carry to gigs. They don't offer a rackmount kit, and they have discontinued the bag for it. It's just big enough that it isn't easy to throw in most gig bags, and while it is certainly sturdy, I'm still hesitant to just toss it in a bag of cables.

I've tried a couple of different options over the two years I've had it; i've put it in a Gator mixer bag (which is almost the perfect size for it). I've also rack mounted it to a 2U clamping rack shelf, which works great, and allows me to put it in a rack with a power conditioner so that I can just plug in speakon cable and a power cable, hit a power switch, and i'm good to go.

HOWEVER, for smaller gigs, where i'm just using a 2x12, it seems kind of ridiculous to haul the 6U rack unit i'm using to house a "small amp head".

What is everyone else doing with their small amp heads?

My toting is fairly light duty and almost exclusively in my van, so everything goes in a soft bag. Laptop bags for the micros, and padded covers for the tube amps.

I carry my PF 500 in a Targus laptop bag. Holds the amp and has a zippered pouch for wires and other stuff. My SVT head has a padded cover and my old Peavey Mark 6 runs around naked.

I use this. It carries everything I need, tools, cables, power cords, wireless transmitters, straps, batteries, first aid kit, and my Genz Benz ShuttleMax 9.2.

It is the ultimate gig bag and hasn’t failed me on over 100 gigs. Not even a frayed stitch.

I have a ShuttleMax so the OEM bags are long since out of production, and the Tuki ones are like 80 bucks which seems extremely high for something that's about 5 bucks worth of materials and maybe an hour of labor. And there aren't any off the shelf solutions that I've found that will fit properly since it's a bigger squarish head. I'm hoping to eventually discover something that will work that is reasonably priced, otherwise I'll probably just bite the bullet and go with the Tuki. I would feel a lot better about that if I could find any decent pictures of what it would look like. The reverb listing picture has about the amount of detail you'd expect from a National Enquirer shot of Bigfoot or Nessie. Guys, pro tip, make it easy for me to send you money, especially if you're asking for a F ton of it.

I'm similar to this. My head goes into a soft gym bag surrounded by cables, straps and other soft bits and pieces. Most of gigs I'm handling stuff myself and using my own transport.

I will say, however, that for away trips where it's all chucked in the van or handled by others, it all goes into a padded road case.

I have found a really old laptop bag that was perfect. Back from the days when laptops had the form factor of a class D head.
But usually, I use a plastic tool case. I have my cables, straps, batteries and IEM stuff in there.

I bought a second hand alloy case for not much and fitted it out like this.
All the cables I need including spares on the R, RCD and Mains tester under the amp on the L.

I built a custom case for my Promethean. The knobs are fairly protected as is, so I never bothered making front and rear lids. But they'd be easy to add if I had to. It's still small enough to go in my lead bag, and I have rubber feet opposite the handle so I can sit it on its side if I have to.

I use the little bag that came with the amp

Id probably use an old padded laptop bag if I didn’t have bag that came with the amp.

I bought a $5 lunch bag a few years ago for my GK MB500. The only thing it won't do is zip up as the head is too big. This is packed on top of my Pedaltrain bag, on top of cables in a gym bag. I do my own lifting/transporting. This is repeated for practices, generally once a week and gigs a few times a year. So far, no issues.

6U?
Biggest rack/case I have ever used for several previous micro amps so to speak was a 4U shallow case; including for the brief time I had a M900 from Darkglass w/pwrcond.
Why not continue to protect your investment? Especially if someone is gigging.
4U shallow should fit nearly perfectly on top of a 212...maybe room to spare.
Release doors/covers, insert cable into cab, plug-in pwr cond, flip switch, done. Besides, it's a lot more difficult for someone to steal a rack/case than a bag.
