How do you isolate bass tracks?

Song Surgeon 5 is a very good tool for learning bass parts. It has a lot of very powerful features for doing exactly that.

DAWs are great for recording. Izotope is a very cool and essential processing tool. But Song Surgeon is the premier tool for learning IMO.

Features:
EQ
Slow down
Loop
Chord detection
Vocal removal (ish)
BPM detection
Pitch Change
Markers
Lead in
Progressively faster looping
Exporting
Apply changes to sections or whole song
Save changes to projects

It’s a very deep tool for learning. Also recommend watching their many 3 minute long training videos to fully take advantage of it.

Also, there is a foot pedal they recommend that you can use to pause and rewind / restart.

What's your goal?
If it's to learn the bass tracks there are cheaper tools that will shift the song up an octave but keep the tempo the same. It's much easier to hear bass parts up an octave.

If you want to actually isolate, then iZotope Music Rebalance is "One" good option.

I have iZotope RX9 Pro for Music which comes with the iZotope Music Production Suite Pro Subscription - $19.99 per month. The Music Rebalance feature does a pretty good job separating out the file into 4 stems, one of which being Bass. It’s not absolute perfect tone-wise, but you can quite clearly hear the bass line that’s within the mix.

I think my comment was misunderstood...
Reaper can make a stereo track into either 2 mono tracks or submix to a single mono track.
However, it cannot separate instruments from the original stereo mix and create a new, individual bass track from that previously mixed stereo track which, I believe, is what the OP wanted..
PS, when I talk about stems, I am referring to the individual instruments and/or groups of similar instruments that can be thought of as "a section".
In summary, Reaper cannot make a bass stem/track from a stereo mix whereas Melodyne can.

Of the purpose is to learn.
There is an interesting ressource made of miltitrack songs used in guitar hero type of games.

Search "multitrack downloads facebook" and that page has in it's description a link to a blogspot multitrackdownload page that has links to thousand of songs, mostly rock.

That's not very legal I guess, but that's really for educational purpose of learning bass, that part isn't dishonest :woot:

I've been using Moises free app on my Android phone and for my needs it does an amazing job. I don't need a dead clean bass track...just enough to help me hear/learn that parts I can't discern from the full mix.

Free app limits to 5 songs per month. I usually need 2 at most.
