How do you pronounce Moog?

When I read the name John Boehner my mental pronunciation is always Boner, I know that it is pronounced Bay-ner but when his name quickly happens across something in front of me the reading voice inside my head says "Boner". Same thing with Moog, I know that it is pronounced Mow-g but my initial mental pronunciation is always Moo-g.

Until today I didn't know how to pronounce Moog, Ephiphany or Worcestershire (okay, I still can never say that last one). D'Addario is one that, even though I've heard it dozens of times, I still can never remember. I make much of my living on the phone with customers and there are names that I almost hate to try and attempt. This is particularly funny since my own last name is Snoddy (pronounced Snow-dee) and I regularly see people struggle to try and say it and/or avoid saying it.

when i was in college, Dr.Herb Deutsch, bob moogs parter, gave us a recital / demonstration on electronic music. in addition to playing some really hip pieces of his for us, he told us several stories about how the Moog company started, and even played on the second-ever moog synthesizer, one that was literally hand-soldered by bob moog.

when mentioned making his first phone call to mr.moog all those years ago, he asked to speak with "bob moo-g" (the way most of us say it). according to the story, which this obviously could've been embelished to make it humourus, he said the first words bob moog spoke to him were correcting him on pronouncing his name, "its moe-g"

if i knew how to type phonetic alphabet characters i would, but i think you guys get it.

Where do you get the idea that there's an "Ep-a" sound in there? The surname is pronounced "eh-pee-FAH-nee".

It might be due to his accent but Nick definitely said "Ep-a-fawn-nee" when I talked to him.

On that note, as a person that used to work on the phone I can tell you that people like to take liberties with the pronouncement of their names.

This thread has been informative. D'addario is d-dario, epiphani is epifawni and some people say rickenbocher. I am from Lowell mass so I have always said RICKENBAGKA. Which its own flavor of horrible. Im just not going to speak anymore.

I've seen D'Addario artists pronounce it wrong in promo vids for the products.
