How do you pronounce Moog?

I guess a chemist would think of "unionized" as a synonym for "not ionized," as in ionized water. I bet union chemists would need to spend a good chunk of the day just clarifying what the heck they were talking about.

Oh, thanks for clarifying. I didn't think of it as un-ionized...

But then it's clear that a chemist and a plumber would say it differently, because it's not the same word. In this regard, I can differentiate a meteorologist and a toy manufacturer by how they pronounce the word "wind".

When I was younger, I though it was pronounced the way you did. Probably fifteen years ago, someone filled me in on the correct pronunciation. To this day, however, I still feel weird pronouncing it the correct way.

As an aside, for those of you who are interested in analogue synthesis, and want to learn how they tick, the Mook Werkstatt is a cool little box that you can tweak in all sorts of ways, for under 300 dollars. The downside is that there is no real gate-in (I can't get the gate-out to work as an in without excessive pitch-shifting), but it has a one-octave keypad that you can play simple lines on. Otherwise, it has the classic Moog filter sound, and you can patch it with little wire probes.

Most players (and all the dealers and employees I have dealt with) pronounce Epifani as epiphany, I used to as well. One day I spoke with Nick Ep-a-fawn-ee and I realized I had been saying it wrong.

I am just now finding out about Moog...

I had a sales dude correct me when I said ep-a-fawn-e.. I always wondered.. "The More You Know!"

Where do you get the idea that there's an "Ep-a" sound in there? The surname is pronounced "eh-pee-FAH-nee".

You say potato, I say patato.. Yeah I said it like moo-g as well, but apparently its more like maa-g.

Oddly enough, Mogwai only has one O. Same goes for fog, bog and frog. Mood and Food have two O's. There should be symbols in English to determine such things built into the script. We should end pronunciation persecution by amending this flaw at once. And while we are at it, lets switch to the much superior metric system. Im tired of lugging around two sets of tools and having to remember what goes between 3/8 and 7/16. I love the USA, we just have a hard time admitting we are wrong.

BTW is it Crayons or Crans, Eggs or EEgs, Ralph Lauren or Ralph Lau-ren, Creek or Crik? How bout Soda or Pop, Dinner or Supper, Shopping Cart or Wagon?? I digress..

Harris: Everybody has such weird names now. It's like Tiffany with a p-h-i, and instead of Nancy, it's Nancine.
SanDeE*: Big "S," small "a," small "n," big "D," small "e," big "E."
Harris: What?
SanDeE*: Big "S," small "a," small "n," big "D," small "e," big "E." Big "S," small "a," small "n," big "D," small "e," big "E." And there's a little star at the end.

+1 for the Steve Martin reference...now we just need a solo bass transcription of King Tut. ;)

LOL I pronounce it just as its spelled. Its not my fault some guy doesn't use simple phonics to pronounce his name. This M-oh-g stuff sounds like Joe Dirt trying to add an e to the end of his name.

Al-oo-min-ee-um

Like condominium (at least that is the way David Hobbes pronounces it - he is an F1 announcer and a former driver).

Jaguar is another good one for him - jag-u-war instead of jag-war.

The film "I Dream of Wire" was interesting (slow as previously mentioned, but interesting). Did finally explain to me why the Buchla synth did not have a keyboard.
