I have three basses I rotate regularly. The one on duty in any given week stays out on a stand for quick access, while the other two sit in hardshell cases.

I have small children and pets so in hardcases. But I’ve done it all. Under the bed in gigbag, in the closet, even on a stand. For shows and rehearsals my band shares a 7 Guitar fender stand

I have an inexpensive five-bass rack (from eBay) that keeps instruments within reach. A few others are in cases until rotated in. One of my challenges is in having enough cases to use when we move later this year. Hard cases take up a lot of space and small gig bags might not be protective enough.

I live in earthquake country and have 2 dogs and a 2-year-old grand daughter: more good reasons to not leave guitars/basses on stands or hanging low on walls.

I need them all within reach and view so I can admire them. I have 3 in wall hangers + a guitar, 3 in a stand (because I'm out of wall space), and one in a case (just haven't bothered selling it yet).

Gigbag on a stand on back of closet. Sometimes keep it out on stand no bag. Need more room...office for wife (telework) and my bass can chill in the corner. No room in living room or bedroom to always keep it out.

Mine are mostly on wall hangers, so they get to be played regularly (5 electric basses and an acoustic electric classical guitar on wall hangers);

Also use hanger stand which mostly I put on an electric guitar, also for quick access;

And those which don't get to be played much: 1 electric bass, 1 acoustic electric bass, and an electric guitar from my high school years, are each in gigbags. Also 1 electric bass in hardshell case.

I strategically lean one up in each room. That way, if I'm walking through my house and the mood strikes, I can stop and grab one. It's the equivalent of leaving a little crack laying around a crack house, it's hard to walk by without grabbing one.
