I bought my first bass 2 years ago, and I still have it. It is an ivory white fender P-Bass. I am never going to sell it, and it is probably going to take the long nap with me for that matter.

It's a HARMONY, remember those ? What a great bass. I got it in 1974(appx). Red suburst,tone,volume and 2 pick-up switches, tilted headstock, see-saw style rubber string mutter, off centered bolt on neck, fret board bindings, 21 fret. and J-style. This is my secret weapon when recording. If anyone knows any info about these things, please e-mail me with it. It sounds GREAT. Just don't ask me about all the others I don't have anymore.
first bass was a 80 dollar used peavy foundation, still have it 13 years later, i leave it at my guitar players house so when he is writing songs he can come up with a bare bones bass line for the song, the best thing about it is that i could put my forearm between the strings and the neck, he dosen't know its not suposed to be like that so he always has more respect for me after he plays it, i don't have the heart to tell him that the strings are a toothpicks with off of the neck on my pedulla buzz bass
i have had my bass for just over one year now. it's an ibanez gio? well, that's what it says on the headstock. i think it's one of the bottom-of-the-line ones. i got it for about $300, i think.
I got a EB-0 copy in 1972, that I believe was made by Ibanez . I still have it and it is one of the two (out of four that I own) basses that I play all the time.

5 years and counting. I got my Schecter a year after I started playing (I used my brothers bass before), and I still play it every day. The only thing I plan to do to it is get new pickups at some point, something better for slap, better highs then it has now. It's very muddy sounding but it plays like a dream.
I had my old GSR200 for about 3.5 years before I got my '77 Jazz Bass from my brother-in-law. That GSR has really gone through a lot and I'm surpised it has held up all this time.
My first was a 1980 MM SR, natural finish. Bought it for $500 brand new (actually $150 plus my Fender Rhodes electric piano). Left it in the back of my stationwagon during the coldest snap I've ever experienced - minus 26 degrees. When I brought it in and opened the case, it immediately covered with frost and I could hear the finish cracking for about two hours.
Before I refinished it I contoured the back, so I may have had one of the first contoured StingRay's anywhere. Sold it in 1992 because I thought I was done with the band business. Ended up buying a 2004 EBMM SR4 cuz I just couldn't leave well enough alone.

Mine was an all black JB Player P bass copy that I had for about 6 months . Ive had that bass come back to me from different owners to get things done to it since I sold it 10 years ago. Its like it follows me around!!! 
All in all its sounded pretty good, but I have no rerets selling it. Now that really early 62 reissue Fender P bass I had that I traded for a Peavey when I was 15, THAT I regret!!!

A '79 Black Musicman Stingray that I bought in early spring of 1980 just before I graduated High School. It still plays and sounds great!! 
My first bass... I think I had it for 5 or 6 years before I mutilated it (sawed off the horns for a teardrop shaped body, spray painted it blue with spray paint , etc, before finally breaking the truss rod and then just throwing the whole thing away.) I wish I wasn't so unkind to it, because now I miss it in a way.

I can't count the Vox Phantom 4 that I had briefly... it wasn't really a bass, but more of a train track tie with four bits of tapewound barbed wire on it. Yeccch. Doesn't count.
My first actual bass cost me $100 plus an Electrovoice 664 microphone. It's a '62 Fender P that still gets regular workouts in the studio. I've had it for almost 39 years now and it was my main bass for a good part of that time. I've got too much history with that one to even consider parting with it.

My 1st bass was a Fender Performer from the early 80's. Sheesh, I did a Google/image search and couldn't even find a pic.

Ok-here's an update to my post from earlier in this thread. I have now completed high school so hopefully i am able to communicate better.
I still own the 1997 Fender MIM Jazz Bass mentioned earlier-however, it's gone through a few changes. Initially-up until a few months ago, it was strung with flats so that i had a fender w/flats. Now? It's strung w/Ken Smith Picc Bass strings. Can get some nice tones.
I've made the switch to 5s so it doesn't get much playing time-the Ray5 gets the most with the upright coming in 2nd [or sometimes switch those].

I still have my first, a MIM Precision made in 1992 and given to me by my dad for Christmas in 1994 or 1995. It's been left in a car trunk for months on end, dropped, banged and fallen more times than I can count, and it still plays and thumps with the best of 'em. Still looks pretty nice too, with just a few chips and scratches, you know, for "character".
Still got it. its an old Kramer Voyager. I will never play it again, but I'd feel guilty releasing it into the wild again. I will take it to valhalla with me.
I've been playing for about 1 3/4 year now. Hopefully at about 2 years I will be finished building my first instrument (click Invalid Link Removed for progress pictures). As of now, I'm playing a [pile drivingly heavy] ESP f-104.
I had my Ibanez GSR200 for around six months. Quickly replaced it with my current Tobias Growler. thank god.
