How long did you have your 1 bass for?

I have had my most recent bass which is an ESP Ltd 5 string for about a month now. I only own three basses but i don't normally count the Squire except that time in the count of 3. I am already planning what will be my last bass for the longest time. that is the Stingray 5, fretless with a piezo on it. The only bass after that that i plan on buying is having the PRS Private Stock shop make me a 5 string PRS bass. :) AWW YEAH!!

my first bass was a crappy epiphone "Accu-bass" which was a pretty blatant p-bass knockoff. i had it for 6 months when i decided i wanted to take bass seriously and went out and bought a fender jazz bass. i sold the epiphone and he turned it into a "punk" bass with all the stickers and crap, which is too bad, cause even though it wasn't a GOOD bass, i loved it cause it was my first.

My first bass was a used Fender bought in 1958. I never took the neck off so I do not know what year it was built. I kept it until 1979 when I traded it for a new Jazz bass. I don't miss the old Precision but I wish I still had the heavy and great sounding Jazz!

i got my first bass for christmas in 1991. (i was 9, and in 5th grade) it was a 3/4 size SYNSONIC, yes, SYNSONIC electric. it was a p-bass knockoff, and was a piece of crap. (that's to be expected when you buy your instrument from SEARS.) i think it even had a plastic body. i had it for almost 4 years, but i didn't start REALLY playing till 7th grade. i had it till my jazz director in 8th grade told me "this weekend, get a bass that doesn't sound like sh!t." so i got my 94 sterling that weekend, and there was much rejoicing. still have it too, 'cept now it doesn't have frets.

I've never got rid of any bass I've had. I still have my first electric which I got in 1980. It was a very cheap bass that was purchased from someone for like $50 along with a tiny amp. It is a short scale Encore which I think was made by Epiphone and sold in places like Sears catalogs. It was crap but I learned to play on it. It was 1985 by the time I got my Rickenbacker. In 1988 I got my BC Rich Warlock which I almost sold last year but couldn't bear to part with. Then came the Zon in 1998. My old bass now has no electronics in it anymore and I let my kids play it in hopes that they'll get interested in learning to play.

What did you do with the electronics? And how old are your kids. Just curious.

Well, the pickup was held in place by screws on the pickguard. Once, while pounding on it quite mercilessly (as I often did), I ended up smashing the pickup right through the pickguard which left it sort of dangling there. I eventually just removed the pickup which left a nice hole there but it didn't matter much since I never plugged it in anymore anyhow. And that's how it has stayed for years. I have two sons, 8 and 5. The 8-year-old likes keyboards while my 5-year-old likes the bass. I'm 30 and I got the bass in question in 1980 I think. I started on upright in 1979 when I was 9 years old.

I had my first bass for about two years. It was a brazilian made Jazz bass copy and it was well made, although the pickups were pretty raw sounding. I replaced it with an Ibanez Roadstar which became my main bass for the following years. The amount of time you keep your first bass depends on how good a bass you begin with. In the early days, all you had was Fender and a few knockoff companies like Kay making basses, so you could potentially play your "first" bass your whole life!

Well when I started I had an Ibanez GSR 200, and I had that for about 4 months... the only reason I bought another one is because I found a Am. Std Fender 5 String for $450... so thats what I'm using now. I still use my Ibanez though... its become my Frankenstien Bass, any time I feel like doing some custom work I do it on that one.

Well I am proud to say that I am no longer using my first bass. I had it for 10 months. I just bought a used Ibanez SR-405 on eBay. And right now I know you are saying Ibanez sucks. And I know they are not the greatest basses, but it was a very good deal and it is probably the best I could get with the money I have. Plus I really wanted a five string. And of course anything is better then what I have now. The company that made my first bass (Lotus) makes nothing but crappy Fender replicas. So I'm pretty happy right now as I'm sure you all can guess.

well my first bass, a cort P-copy only lasted about 3 months then i bought a kramer 4 string, and it was my only bass for about 12 years until i bought an american jazz fretless last year, and an old kramer aluminum and a new kramer 5. so ive had it for 13 years now. and i still use it constantly, although not with my new band in which my guitarist plays a 7 string, so i use the 5.

I had mine for 3 and a half years. I was completely sick of it, but after I got my second my band split and things fell apart.
I wouldn't be surprised if the second bass was cursed. Ten years later I'm on my 4th and 5th basses and I'm very happy with them too.

I had my 1st bass for two or three years. I think it was a Cort Performer series. It had P/J config (Select by EMG), I traded that bass to be able to get a used Yamaha RBX5 which I played on since that day 1993 (?) until I finally bought an MM Sterling March this year.

But the STRAP I use is still THE SAME!! I will never trade it away, it is really nothing special with it, its just a black leather strap with white leather band cross inlays. Got the Idea from a Jimi Hendrix concert I saw on tv, he had one in brown so I ripped the shoelaces (made of leather) out of my sneakers and put them on my strap. Hah, from a plain black strap to a customized strap a'la Hendrix. ;)
