How LOUD is a Rumble 500c + 2x10

For a gig with no PA? Not a soul outside the stage (and that’s generous) will hear what he’s doing. Not unless this is a pretty quiet band, but ones that come equipped with 100 watt guitar amps tend to be a bit on the loud side.
Yeah Im gonna have to disagree here too...I have the Rumble 500c & the 210 extension. My band recently supplied the sound for a six band party for the owner of a local bar. Every single bass player used my rig that night, and it was not going thru the PA, it was however placed in a bit of a corner, purposely by me and it was very loud.., now this was not a big bar, Id say less than 75 people but pretty standard bar for this area, The first bassist was stupid loud, and we turned him down mid song LOL.
I have lots of heads and cabs including a 215, a 412, and a 610..the Rumble rig will not quite keep up with the LOW END any of those BUT it comes very close...close enough that I have no need to take any of those cabs to any gig unless its outdoors on a huge stage. I typically let the PA handle the big lows, but the Rumble rig is no slouch.
If the OP is running against two 100 watt half stack, then yes .. he will lose the fight, and the low end will suffer without PA ,,,but for two 38 pound cabs I can carry in, one in each hand, its pretty damn great.
OP if you really have to compete with 2 half stacks then I'd recommend the Hartke LH1000 and at least two 410 cabs

Right, and that is my point. I’m sure it is a fine rig but for what OP described as a LOUD band with that much firepower, it’s gonna call for the big guns.

Agreed! If they are playing heavy rock or metal, then he needs to go with more cabs and a slammin head BUT a lot of this depends on if the band is acutally playing out in clubs or stage size, or if its a garage band situation. One thing to note here, the Rumble 500 has a "gain" knob and a "master" knob, and if you run the gain too high and then start pushing up the master, then the Rumble's limiter will kick in pretty quick and make you sound thin and muddy...keep that in mind, OP

Hi All!

I’ve lurked a bit, great knowledge on the forum, need advice, first post.

I am ampless. Need to buy a loud rig, keeping it in the 1 - 1.5k range.

The band is a LOUD original rock band, 2 100 watt guitarists, very loud drummer.

I am wondering if a Rumble 500c + Rumble 2x10 will keep up with a seriously loud band. Yes there is a PA w/ a sub, but let’s pretend there is no PA support.

Yes yes yes, we should turn down… yes yes yes, no one should be that loud… yes yes yes, you’re happy your not going to the shows… I get all that. But…

Will a Rumble 500c + 2x10 keep up? Truly???
If not, will the 800?

Thank you for giving me the real skinny on this!

No 2x10 will work with a loud band.

Hello, Long. Welcome to Talkbass. Congratulations on your situation. Some here know exactly what they would do in your situation and why. Some others don't know either one. But you'll get comments from both! Good luck sorting them out. ;)

Yes. Yes the Rumble 500 combo with a single matching 210 cab can, without any doubt whatsoever, get exceedIngly LOUD and keep up with volume wars! The near vertical array of 4 identical speakers gives a coupling effect that is more than the sum of the parts. But the real question is can you get the tone and dynamics you seek from this mighty, thunderous Rumble stack? Are you familiar with the Rumble's unusual gain structure and voicing buttons? It is a very versatile tool, but it's not for everyone. Each must find their own way through the multiple paths. And If the R500c+210 is not to your aural pleasure then, perhaps, ... ...

The new Rumble 800 combo with one, or two!! 210 cabs may be more to your liking. This new combo reportedly has a bit of a different voice, whether from the neo speakers or the Modified Delta-Comp circuit, or both. Yes, yes, yes, the Rumble 210 cab has a published rating of 350 watts continuous (like RMS), but it's the exact same speakers that are exposed to up to 400 watts continuous in the older Rumble Stage 800 combo and its matching black-grille 210 cab, which can also get another 400 watts there. So, yes, the Rumble 210 cab (whichever color grille) can, indeed handle 400 watts!! Or 3 x 267 watts with the 800 running two cabs for more SPL (plus coupling if stacked)!!!

The Rumble tools are very powerful, very capable, very lightweight, very inexpensive and readily available. Take your pick and find your way!

Ah! Try to deflect extraneous comments all you want, it will be to no avail. :roflmao: Yes, yes, yes, I noticed you didn't ask about any other brands or models, either.

... ... ... Thank you for giving me the real skinny on this!

I hope your "Skinny Verifier" is up to snuff. There's a lotta 'heavy' skinnys.

I’ve got a Rumble 500 combo and while it is loud, I’ve played in bands where I’d want a 115 or another 210 cabinet to go with it. One was with a strat and a tele, both running through Deluxe Reverb amps so IIRC, that was 44W total? Either way, they are nice but grab an extra cabinet, especially if you are going to be doing a lot of jobs with minimal PA.
Another advantage to a couple of cabinets in minimum PA situations is you can point one at your drummer if needed.

It all depends on how they use their 100 watt amps.

Do they just use them as pedal platforms, able to play at low volumes letting the pedals make their tone or their sound, or are they using all of the 100 watts to get "their sound"?

I doubt if 2x10 will be loud enough. When the 2x10 reaches x max you’re done no matter how many watts you shove into it. To be loud you need cone area not watts.
An all valve Hiwatt 100 through a full stack would be louder.
You need to spend your money on an extension cab. I would go 2x15 if you can manage it
He's talking about his Rumble 500 210 combo + 210. 410.

Instead of running a lot of power into fewer speakers, running less power into larger speaker arrays almost always serves this scenario better, unfortunately. At least, with the budget of 1.5k. There are some smaller rigs that will put out these days, but not in that budget range. Running an amp to stress levels all the time to keep up with trying to move the air you need to move will just mean a shorter life for the amp.

Used, 1.5k will buy a lot of bass gear.
