How LOUD is a Rumble 500c + 2x10

Your post reads as if what you really want is the loudest amp rig you can afford.
Just buy a used lead sled head and a couple of used 410 cabs or a used 810.
They are available everywhere for pennies on the dollar these days.
You ought to be able to build an ear drum splitting rig for well below the $1k mark.
Don’t forget to pick up a back brace at your local pharmacy, and have fun playing stadiums without foh support.

I'd strongly suggest broadening your options, as there are MANY out there that can/will fit the bill. If it's a loud band, you want more speakers/cabs and not just boosting how much wattage your amp puts out or has on tap.

Mesa, GK, Markbass, Peavey (used), Ampeg...the list goes on, but they've all got phenomenal offerings as well. If you dig the Fender tone, it's your rig and your money. The Rumble stuff does tend to have a baked-in scoop to the tone stack AND the cabs, so if volume is of concern that may be worth considering.

Hi All!

I’ve lurked a bit, great knowledge on the forum, need advice, first post.

I am ampless. Need to buy a loud rig, keeping it in the 1 - 1.5k range.

The band is a LOUD original rock band, 2 100 watt guitarists, very loud drummer.

I am wondering if a Rumble 500c + Rumble 2x10 will keep up with a seriously loud band. Yes there is a PA w/ a sub, but let’s pretend there is no PA support.

Yes yes yes, we should turn down… yes yes yes, no one should be that loud… yes yes yes, you’re happy your not going to the shows… I get all that. But…

Will a Rumble 500c + 2x10 keep up? Truly???
If not, will the 800?

Thank you for giving me the real skinny on this!

SVT810, or go home.

I have to disagree with some, I think the rumble 500 is plenty loud. No matter that amp or rig, it will 100% depend on the other players, type of band, where one plans to play, goals etc. Rumble 500 is plenty good for me, more on the Blues and Indie-Psych side of music so in general even though Blues and more psych indie is on the louder side it works. Most places have a PA if you play live, also if you play at a coffee house with a folk band, it should be plenty. I also love Phil Jones, but truthfully those are amps that really depend on the player, quiet jazz band in cafe? Can work, Loud crazy Doom band? Maybe... anyway IMO the Rumble 500 is loud on it's own with PA support even without depending on where you are playing and what type of players you with with, and their specs as well. It's only 350 of course on it's own however the extension makes it 500 and it plenty IMO. Just my 2 cents GL dude, I also think the rumble is a great start to new players all the cab and head combos are great but can be pricey and overwhelming with choices sometimes it's nice to just have something to start with IMO. Good luck again YMMV.

Also sorry just reread your post, if no PA support, I personally think it's good but honestly then maybe look into some speakers. I can't help you there since I love combos and don't plan to get into the amp head and speaker world yet, when I have some funds I will. GL, there's a lot of post on this topic just look up "Rumble 500 loud in band" on here and R/bass.

The 500 will probably work OK. If you have the second 210 cab putting out 500-watts rms max, you should be able to keep up, but you will have to be running it really close to max a LOT! An 800-watt rms amp won't be twice as loud but will get you an additional 2db over the most the 500-watt will work. To get a 3db increase requires twice as much power or twice as much speaker area. Technically 3db is twice as loud but the human ear recognizes a 10db increase in sound pressure level (SPL). For most people a 1db difference is a noticeable difference in how loud it is.. That means more headroom and better dynamics. That also means your amp will run cooler and will last longer.

You know, the only way you'll know for sure whether or not your Fender Rumble 500 with a second 210 cab is going to be enough is to try it with the group. Please NOTE*** most of the headlines for the Fender Rumble 210 cab refer to it as having 700-watts power handling. That is deceptive because that is the Peak Power Watts rating. The RMS rating is half that. Their continuous power rating (think RMS) is 350-watts. If you do go up to the 800-watt amp, that amp will be capable of blowing the speakers if you really crank it... so don't.

My DNS-210 handles 700-watts rms and I ran it with my 800-watts into 8Ω big Eden amp for a couple of years, and never had a problem. That's because I listened to what I was playing and never even came close to actually putting 700-watts into it because it's such a loud cab. I use a very clean and clear signal and run my bass EQ flat with just a little boost in my low-mids (to 1:30) because low-mids are what gives a bass presence and definition when playing in a group. If my speakers start getting stressed (farting noises) I can hear it and adjust immediately. If you run distortion, odds are you will never hear your speakers being stressed before they blow. Just an FYI: never max an 800-watt rms amp into those Rumble 210 cabs.

I doubt if 2x10 will be loud enough. When the 2x10 reaches x max you’re done no matter how many watts you shove into it. To be loud you need cone area not watts.
An all valve Hiwatt 100 through a full stack would be louder.
You need to spend your money on an extension cab. I would go 2x15 if you can manage it

Nope. Adding the 800 will just blow speakers when you crank it up too high. You need more speaker. In a loud band like that, with NO PA I want an 810 or a good 610.

For those who are saying this will be loud enough, I wonder if they have heard such a rig in this kind of band from offstage. When I tried that, I couldn’t hear myself by the time I got to the end of a 20 foot cable. And that’s when it became time to get an 810.

It will be plenty loud enough for him. Plus a lot lighter to carry and a lot cheaper than purchasing an 810.

Maybe rent one and try it out?

Keep in mind that the Rumble 500 will only output its full wattage if an extension speaker is hooked up. Otherwise, it puts out around 350 Watts for just the internal speaker.

Of course, wattage doesn't really mean anything....there isn't a direct correlation between LOUD and wattage...but keep it in mind as you go.

Can also depend on your strings, EQ, and playing style. Are you finger picking flats with a low-frequency boost, or are you grinding round wounds with a pick and a mid-scooped EQ?

For a gig with no PA? Not a soul outside the stage (and that’s generous) will hear what he’s doing. Not unless this is a pretty quiet band, but ones that come equipped with 100 watt guitar amps tend to be a bit on the loud side.

I play a Rumble 200c + R115. At outdoor shows with the Gain at apprx 10 o’clock and the Master at 9:30 - 10:00 my pals tell me they can hear it down the block.

Then again, I’m not playing against two 100 watt stacked guitar dudes and head banging drummer. (Why would someone do this to themselves, and who would want to stay in the same building?)

Very True what all are saying about needing more speakers. Make sure to add an extension cabinet! Gotta push more air.

He will be fine. This set up is loud enough. Nice assumptions though (and that's being generous)

I'd get the new Rumble 800 non effects combo, and the 210 ext cab. Technically the 800 combo will put out 400watts rms into an 8ohm ext cab and the 210 ext cab can only handle 350watts rms, but you'd really have to push it to blow a speaker. That setup will be seriously loud, I'm surprised people are saying it won't be enough.
The 500 combo and the 210 is seriously loud, but the new 800 has a much improved DI out, not affected by master volume and pre/post that's a huge plus IMO. You can adjust stage volume without affecting DI output, or turn master to 0 and record silently using the DI out. Lightest at 29lbs Invalid Link Removed
