I can't remember if I've posted in this thread before or not.

But I went from 6 that are all gone now down to 3 these days.

I figured out long ago that I like to play/buy cheap but sound better. ;) Or buy cheap and modify. So I stuck to that mold when buying future gear.

I have my super standard Squier Bronco that is a pickup/pot/string swap master. I've got 3 pickups waiting for it I haven't even wired or tried yet.

LTD B50 for the look. Lol

And of all things a $60 eBay P bass white on white that has twice as much more into it in pickups and electronics.

I'd grab the Bronco for almost any task though.

Just sold my Mustang PJ, so I am back down to 2. I just couldn't get the same feel out of it that I get from my P and my Jazz. Using the money to put new pickups into my Jazz Bass and hopefully fix some of the old awful hum.

I am up to number 12. A 1954 P-bass. The body was stripped to bare wood (swamp ash and it looks good, original string ferals (sp?) are still in there), neck is original as are the tuners and knobs, one pot replaced as is the pick-guard, bridge and p/u. Very light for a 50’s P... it may be my lightest P-bass.

I just like them...especially the older ones you don't see anymore. I've been looking at a Razor NT for a while on CL that is so awesome. The used ones are usually real bargains. GC used and MGR used usually have no idea what they're selling.

Things like the neck thru's like the Edge Pro, The B2 and the Hardtail and then the Czech made Dean's like the Edge Select & Edge Improv are both Neck Thru (made at the same time and place where Spector Euro basses were made). The flame maple and quilt maple are really sharp and are not photo tops, but real tops. @NicJimBass will attest to how these are.

Mainly from 1998 to 2010. I'd really like to find a Dean Edge Hammer 10 string. So Dean isn't making too much money off of me since I've been combing the internet for deals on certain models that are used. I only have a few actual new Dean purchases.

The necks on the solid bodies are amazing if you like a thin narrow satin neck.

Plus since so many people dismiss them without ever even trying them I come by some nice shape basses. Some are like new. I bought a Edge 4 QB (quilt maple with Bartolini pups) from a steel player on CL that was in pristine condition.

Some are actually real sleepers and others are quite easily upgraded.

I own Gretsch, Fender, Gibson, Rickenbacker, Ibanez, Schecter, Peavey, Takamine, Michael Kelly, and some others, but the biggest bang for the buck has to be Dean hands down.

My most expensive basses are the Gretsch Thunder Jet, Gretsch 6073, Fender American Precision Deluxe, Gibson Les Paul oversized, Rickenbacker 4003, Ibanez 1200 Premium and Dean USA Jeff Berlin Patchwork and I always tend to play the Deans more than the others.

I don't know how many you've ever tried if any, but if you come across a few older used ones in a shop near you I'd recommend sitting down and plugging in and playing for a bit. @jd56hawk is a fan of Deans too.

Brother, I get that high $$$ Basses doesn’t mean they will be better than a killer inexpensive find.

My $650 MIJ FrankenP is my #1 ..... among my Foderas, Pedullas, Ricks, Dingwalls, Sandbergs, Fender CS beauties.

Play what you love!!!

I’m not being adversarial or anything like that.
I’m just saying if you see an older Dean in good shape try it out.
You have some really great basses and I especially envy the Foderas and Pedullas, but I’d be the guy finding one in a yard sale for peanuts since I have a problem paying big bucks for anything no matter what it is. Always looking for a good deal. I’m looking at a real nice Peavey USA Cirrus and it’s almost at a price where I’ll offer a little less and see what happens. :)
