Three. Specifically chosen to cover as much ground as possible (within my own tastes and limitations).
An active 5-string rock monster, a P bass with flats for classic tones, and a fretless for those mellow moments
If I owned any more, one of them would inevitably start collecting dust. If I were to increase my collection to four, the new arrival would have to be so radically different that it wouldn't affect my enjoyment of ly current three. Maybe something like an electric upright?
