How many basses do you own? MEGATHREAD!

I've only ever owned 2 basses.
My first is a 1978 4001 series Rickenbacker. Considering that I really got into Rush and Yes, it is no surprise.

My second was a Yamaha 350-BBF fretless. I was inspired by listening to a few Kate Bush albums. I really enjoyed the fretless work on "The Dreaming" and "The Kick Inside" so I bought this to explore the instrument.

Recently I traded the 4 string fretless for a Peavey Milestone BXP 5 string. I'd recently started to practice regularly with a group of friends and while the tone of the Rickenbacker is distinct, it's not the sound I wanted all the time. The Peavey gives me a more even and manageable tone without needing to attack it like I would the Rickenbacker.

So, I'm still at 2 basses...for now.

I own 7. Here my order of which ones I like best, and their purposes.
1.) Fender Jazz MIM Fretless - Main bass, used for jazz(obviously), and mellow music, as well as blending when I'm not sure of the bass lines.

2.) Epiphone Goth Thunderbird IV - Used for Metal and Thrashy
stuff.

3.) Rogue AB304-TBK Acoustic - Main practice bass, acoustic jam sessions. Love it for it's rich tone and easy playability.

4.) Squier Bronco - Bought it for my girlfriend to learn bass on, but I'm upgrading it, and fell in love with it's short scale and easy playability.

5.)Yamaha RBX374 - Used for all around sessions. If I was going to a jam, and didnt know what kind of music I'd playing, I'd bring this bass. I bought it for $50.00 from a friend who's dad worked for Yamaha(my friend was an idiot)!!!!!

6.) Conrad 40080 Hollowbody - One of my two vintage basses. Made in Japan in the 70's. Love it's tone and slim neck. My dad gave it to me, and it was my first bass.

7.) Harmony P-Bass Copy - Made in the 70's or 80's, it was my second bass, and when my dad gave it to me, it was in horrendous shape. New tuners, new bridge, new almost everything, and a sticker/paint job and refinishing later, and it's my beater.

One is a disassembled 4 string, with the frets ripped out of the fretboard and finish sanded off the body (It was free).

right now i own 3 basses, but i am selling one of them...

my goal is to ONLY have 2 basses for everything...

one fretless (the custom jazz bass i am building)
and the other fretted (a Line6 Variax Bass 700. if it should ever crap out, then i would replace it with a jazz bass with a P bass pickup in the neck.)

why only 2 basses, and not as many as i can:
the combination of less space, less maintanence and simplicity.


as far as guitars go, right now just one guitar, a stratocaster with a dimarzio humbucker in the bridge.
but maybe oneday 2 guitars...
a line6 variax transplanted into a stratocaster, and an ibanez JEM
