How many basses

5-String: Ibanez SR3005 Stock
4-String: USA Fender Jazz Stock

2 Basses. That's it. I've owned lots of others but I sold them or gave them away. Why do you need so many basses? If you honestly think you can't get a certain sound out of of a certain bass and need to accumulate loads of instruments to remedy the problem then you probably don't understand the fundamentals of sound. Unless the bass has electrical or serious playability issues ie. warping, missing frets, no strings?? there is no reason any bass can't work for any genre of playing.

Don't know if you looked at what basses he has, but 5 of his basses are equal in price to about 50 of mine. He ain't compromising.

With only five 'opportunities' I had to make the most of each one. LOL.

You really only need one, maybe two if you're a gigging musician in case one breaks. Your wife is entirely correct.

Depends on your gigging situation - for example, I play in two bands, and gig periodically in 3 others... I typically have to have atleast (1) 4 string standard, standard tuned, (1) half step down, and atleast (1) 5 string, although it wouldn't be prudent not to have a backup 5er, so that makes a minimum of 4 basses to be decently covered for my working situations...

Now, since I'm an uncurable gear whore, I keep (2) really nice 4 strings in standard, (2) really nice 4 strings - half step down, and (1) really nice 5er - that I gig with as I feel like it, and then a couple more of each that are good, solid basses that I practice and rehearse with...

4 for me. 4 string acoustic, 4 string fretless p copy, 6 string SGR206 and 4 string corvette $$. I'm getting a 5 string MTD within the next month or so, and I really want an Alien 6 string fretless. Maybe by winter (August)

I'd rather not - if I wanted to really feel guilty, I'd dwell on the fact that my dog eats better than alot of people do... In all fairness, though - I really love that dog, and he does a great job of guarding my house(you know, keeping all those basses safe)

This is one of the reasons I don't start thread topics (other than for sale threads). All it takes is for one individual to derail with some controversy or personal agenda and things go into the toilet rather quickly. Of course, I'm talking about the other guy in this thread and not you, Jimmy.

I live in an 2 bedroom 824 square ft apartment and I have 10 basses, 4 guitars, 8x10 ampeg, SVT Classic a Fender Vibratone and a Marshall 4x12 plus one kid and another one on the way I'm not allowed anymore which is fair at this time.

Something like 9 electric basses, an upright (that gets about 50% of my playing any more), an acoustic guitar, and my kids' 2 short-scale basses. Plus piano, keyboard, amps, studio desk w/studio gear...

I totally scored on a wife that is imaginary, and she lets me have all the basses I want!!!

I only have two at the moment. NS2005 and a GSR 200. I'm making my next one, though i may splurge on a fretless to see if I like it before deciding whether to make it a fretless or not. I probably will fret it anyway as that's much more useable for my skill level.

To the OP, ye, much worse things to spend money on. Tell her you get a bass for every pair of shoes she buys. Or take up gambling. That's way more expensive. (kidding)

I think 41 basses is the optimal number. I had the good fortune of having my wife present when a salesman at GC told me he has 41 basses, so that's the number. I have only 17 (my wife thinks 16 ... shhhhh!), so I'm on my way.

I don't see how 'using the internet' is the same thing as 'owning 50 guitars' so I am not following you. I don't have two internet contracts, I have one. But I am outta here, rich people have problems we, the inferior class, do not understand.

For instance, when the battery in my car key goes dead and I have to unlock the door by actually sticking the key in the lock and turning it. Then I have to hold the danged key against the "Start" button to get it to go.

I currently own 6 but (here's my defense and justification) they are all cheap!! Also, my son uses half of them more than me so I only own 3 right?? (more justifications).

Cheap, cheaper, and cheapest!! I was eyeing a Sherwood Green Squier Precision Special on EvilBAY but let it slip through.
