How many basses

In my case, I just buy a bass until I find one that I like better, then I buy that one. Problem is, I am an extreme introvert with poor social skills and I'm honest so selling things is not my forte.

Not only would I disclose every minor flaw on the bass, I would do it as if that flaw alone made the bass into a worthless heap. But if you think I would possibly part with such a vintage relic'ed beauty for less than a fair price, you can think again!

I am currently up to 10 basses and would love to sell all but 2 or 3 of them, but I just can't.

I was really hoping that, at last, I'd finally found a humanitarian and totally altruistic calling to finally shed the MusicMan StingRay 5HH-with GOLD hardware, quite bourgeois, The Fender American Deluxe Jazz Bass V that'll be here this week, & the Custom Moye 5, which I had built to my specs. I'm going to SERIOUSLY rethink my decision to order an MIA Deluxe Pbass AND a Skjold later this year. I need to unchain myself from the material bond of my Basswitch IQ/DI preamp with TWO effects loops, no less! Give up the trappings of the QSC power amp running into the, I embarrassed to even mention this, the TWO Mesa cabs I own! The horror! I should be able to feed a few villages by giving up the plethora of pedals on my board or I could relinquish them to a more deserving, deprived 3rd world street musician?

I feel my soul lifting as I.....:eek:


You know what? I changed my mind, I'm not giving up CRAP! My gigging pays for most of my stuff. I have a job and I vow to continue to buy as much bass crap as I can afford! In fact, I just bought a new tuner! Did I need it? Nope, I've already got one that works, I just wanted it!

I usually have 4 basses. Right now I only have 2(Sold the Modulus), but #3 will be here sometime this week(Bought a Fender MIA DJBV). I am planning on buy a Deluxe Pbass AND I've emailed Pete Skjold about one more "modern" bass.

Do I feel bad that some of the rest of the world has it really sucky? You bet I do. Do I feel bad that I own a bunch of cool basses & bass gear? Not a chance...;)

I have 2 : my prized Zon Sonus Custom 5, and a 90s J-bass. The Zon gets all the play.

The only bass I feel like I could use is a fretless. If I can't scare up enough bread to get a Sonus 5 fretless within the next year or so, I'm going to put a fretless carbon neck on my J and call it a day

I would like to thank everyone that replied to my thread. My wife read all of them and now has an inkling of the motive for requiring more than one bass. Wether this will translate into more basses or not remains to be seen. Thanks again Scoly.

I have one double bass, one acoustic bass, one Precision, one PJ, and one JJ fiver that doesn't actually belong to me. So that's five basses in my music room.

I've donated a lot of my money to charities, not to mention more than a few buckets of blood, so I'm not suffering from too much middle class guilt for owning a few toys.

I promise myself no more basses even after finding out that my hands will be alright. Just when and got two more but kept only one of them. I'm love trying out gear even if it for a day or two. I have three here at home and two I kept in NY. My wife is pretty cool with my buying and I know that the bills come first and basses second. I learn that if you have good stuff it's easy to move when it's time to sell. I do have some cheap basses but try to keep them in good shape.

I've got ten, counting one that's on long-term loan to my dad, one that's for sale, and an EAB. But today I should be getting the last parts I need for a Warmoth build I'm doing, so shortly it will be eleven. I've also got sixteen guitars, a couple mandolins, an electric sitar, and a banjo.

Current count is four. In order of arrival:

Squier VM Jaguar Short Scale
Squier VM Jazz 77
Cort Arona 4 OPBB
Cort B4FL (Fretless)

This with the understanding that I started playing bass one year and a half ago, and that I play almost exclusively at home.

If I could only keep one, it would be the Arona. It is a lovely instrument.

My collection grew to seven with the additional of a G&L M-2000 that I just bought off of BadJazz. It will grow to eight tomorrow when I receive the Squier CV 60's Sonic blue P bass that I bought of off icke2433. Both purchases were opportunity buys. This is all strickly a hobby for me. I have no intention of playing outside the home. I gave that up years ago.

Ummm as of this minute.... 11. I like to make things orderly si I think one more to make an even 12 is in demand. But I am actually running out of room to store them without having them spill over into the rest of my families attempt at a "normal home life". My 18 year old son plays too and has 2 basses, 2 guitars and his upright too. I just think a bigger house and or maybe an add on garage could solve my problems....:hmm:
