How many pedals do you use on a job?

Just one, a compressor set at a very low level and pretty much always on.
Have a few choruses (Chorusi?), reverb and a fuzz pedal but don't get much use.

Nice, David! But I'm also totally down with the purist thing as well. I'm for whatever someone feels they need to get through their gig, whether it's nothing or 100 pedals in a fridge rack with midi switchers and 5 different signals to the board. I did no pedals for a while my own self, actually did a gig today where the stage was tiny and skipped the pedals, and most of the time my pedals are off as well. Well, maybe half the time. On some gigs
That Mel 9 sounds like a whole lot of fun, and the Epitome has three really good pedals in one. Just whatever you do, don't go down the fuzz vortex. It's a rabbit hole from which there is no escape!!!

For me, depends on the gig. I guess I’m boarderline Commerford-level.
Bread and butter gigs I’m usually running at least an always on compressor and a light driver. Last night I had The Accountant and the Germaium boost section of the W&C Super Russian (basically a Phat Phuk) on all night.
Additionally, last night I had some funk tunes (Proton) and some Hendrix tunes (Big Muff section of the Super).
Another gig I have, I use all of the above, plus both sides of the Octabvre for a few 80’s era Miles Davis tunes, a Phaser for Pink Floyd, and a chorus for Jaco and Rush tunes.
At church, I run a comp (W&C Gold, with Germanium boost, again basically a PP), an OmniCabSim, and a Noble DI 100% of the time. I count the Noble because the preamp section is a tone enhancement.
In addition to the above always on, I use an OC-2 clone for synth bass tunes, a VMT as a dirty boost for the rocking loud parts, and a Meatbox for sub-synth underlying stuff (think church pipe organ type low end with long notes, except the tunes are more modern). The Meatbox also serves as a low B substitute if I’m on a 4 that week; as a matter of fact sometimes I’ll use the Meatbox instead of my low B when I bring a 5.
Am currently working on a new Gorm/Hejne pedalboard setup, so figured might as well share this. Not set in stone (or metal brackets) yet, but a good starting point.
Tuner pedal, which I count as nothing.
I used to use a Decimator G String, but there wasn't much need in the end. I got it for guitar, and out of habit, I took it with me to use with my bass for a while.

I dont use any pedals at all..I have a rack mounted tuner and rack mounted preamp in a rack with my SVT amp but thats it..I do use use multiple cabinets..

According to the thread title, I use 3. Gas, break, clutch.
According to the post, I use 1. Overdrive...slightly on sometimes. Just to add a little bit of edge and volume boost if we get fast and thrashy.
I like and want to use effects, my band mates don't have a problem if I do - Why should other bass players have such a problem?
My current board has nine effects in one band's long set I use every effect at least once most twice. In another band's 2 long sets everything gets used a lot more with several scene changes needed.

Tuner, compressor, preamp. That's it 99% of the time.

Whatever I am asked for. Last week I played with a guy who demanded me chorus, fuzz, overdrive and reverb. I always have my tuner, my compressor and my preamp (to use it as a DI at least or preamp if I need it). Those 3 are mandatory for me. Then, it depends on the project and kind of music.
I play a very wide variety of music so what I need changes from week to week. I use a pedaltrain metro 16 for every gig. The signal chain always starts tuner>compressor>Boss OC2> then from there it changes from gig to gig depending on what I need. It will be a rotation of different distortions, envelope filter, synth pedal, or chorus.
Usually works out to be about 6 pedals total if you count the tuner.

I only need one. . . one boards'worth. As to how many pedals are in a boardsworth, well, it's enough to need 2 PSUs.
A Boss EQ, Keeley Bassist, and I have TC Electronic Tuner, and I really thinking about getting rid of all but the tuner.
