I think there is a correlation & have noticed the folks who seem to be intent on getting under other people's skin almost never have anything to contribute to the actual gear or technique discussions.

Exactly. I moderate another forum and this is common. I come here to relax and learn

I kinda use the ignore feature as a gentle reminder to myself that I don't interact with someone -- the "do not feed the trolls" rule. I can always click "show ignored content" if I'm curious. I can usually tell which kinds of threads will attract the people on my list.

A fair number on my list have been banned.

Same here. Reminds me to not respond to them if I read their posts.... more an 'avoid engaging with' reminder. And yes, they're more likely to be banned.

No, because then we’d just have to click on all of their posts to read them to see if there any issues. JT used to just add them to his “Follow” list- it was usually not a good thing if he was following you.

You could make a catch-all account called "The Cops" and then follow people that are acting up regularly.
If you get a message that says "The Cops are following you" you know whats up. lol.

I’m certainly an entirely different person than I was 10+ years ago. It’s sad when someone goes 5+ years and hasn’t changed their minds about at least a few big things.

What happens when a patient takes more "time" than their appointment was set for, or they ramble on/piss & moan about this and that? Do you ignore them, too?

In the eleven years that I've been on Talk Bass, I've never used the ignore function. Not my thing I guess as I haven't been offended by any TB'r posts or felt like that I had to hide from someone's differing opinion.

Another use of the ignore feature, is a kind of game to predict who the trolls will be. And when certain kinds of threads crop up, I click on "show ignored content" and see how right I was. It just adds amusement to the forum.

I use the ignore function whenever I end up in a pissin' match with someone who has to "win" every discussion. Some people can't deal with facts, some can't accept a viewpoint other than their own. I think of "ignore" as eliminating useless static. Interestingly, many I've ignored either haven't returned or have been banned by the moderators. I haven't missed them.

In my view, proving that I can read any and all opinions is a contest of intestinal fortitude that I don't need to win.

I certainly have an open mind, but for me, it doesn't mean being open to trolling and drivel. I'm willing to be a slowpoke when it comes to changing my opinions. If I'm wrong about something, and miss a chance to change my mind because somebody is a troll, the worst thing that can happen is that I continue to be wrong for a while until someone else does a better job of articulating the same idea.

I've seldom been totally wrong about something for more than a few decades.
