How much does everyone drink during shows and jams?

I keep it to coffee or an energy drink, no alcohol. It used to feel fun, but I realized that it had a detrimental effect on my playing and my mood if I drank alcohol before or during playing. Also, whenever the band started drinking, there were a couple members who developed a reputation for getting and hammered and screwing everything up.

Look, I'm an alkie...........

But I kicked some major ass playing plastered. I remember one gig (well, no, I don't remember) at the "hard rock cafe" in sac where I was SO PISSED at the drummer I spent a kings ransom between the two sets getting hammered. I STILL have the tapes of the show, I was awesome. Pro's know how to drink and play.

No, I'm not posting them because the "singer" ( haha!) was so bad it doesn't matter (and he wasn't drunk). Take my word for it or don't, it' up to you!

Assuming the venue doesn't prohibit (some do, there can be liquor license issues for them if an inspector shows up), I'll have one or two beers over the course of a night. I'm a slow-sipping moderate drinker in any case, even if I weren't playing that's probably all I'd have. Not uncommon to have a beer at rehearsal too.

From the age of 17 to 23 I drank as much as I possibly could.

That didn't work out too well.

From age 24 till now (33 years) I drink no alcohol at all.

Congrats on the long span of sobriety, Joe. Honestly, I had no idea you were 57..... from the pics I've seen of you (including your avatar pic) I suspected you were my age (51) or younger.

my goal is to drink daily, but there are days when i just don't get around to it. it makes no difference to me whether i'm playing or not...same daily goal. i drink less now (68) than when i was younger (it doesn't take as much).

no beers = goal attainment failure
1 beer = must be perfectly chilled mexican beer with a hit of lime and hot sauce.
2 beers = must be perfectly chilled mexican beer with a hit of lime and hot sauce.
3 beers = must be perfectly chilled mexican beer with a hit of lime and hot sauce.
4 beers = usually at home, but must be perfectly chilled mexican beer with a hit of lime and hot sauce.

if i can't get what i want --- cold mexican beer with lime and hot sauce = i don't drink = goal attainment failure. :D
