Hi there!! I was wondering how i could send a 40hz signal to my svt-vr without an oscilloscope, and how to check the output signal with my multi-meter. http://ampeg.com/pdf/SVTVR.pdf And by the way: I just got NOS General electric 12AX7 for my preamp. Do you think it is necessary to put such good tubes in the driver section? Thx for you help guys!!!
actually, as per the manual, you would be setting the balance and not the bias with a 40hz signal. a signal generator (and a DVM to measure the 25V RMS is required) to set the driver tube's balance pot so it drives each trio of 6550's equally.
oh sorry, i meant the balance.... I guess this will sound very "newbish" but.... what is exactly a DVM?
F*** me sideways!!!! And how do i set my voltmeter on the output when the cab is plugged??? Hey man thank's so much for your help, it feels like a hotline!!!!
You need to use a dummy load. No offense, but it doesn't sound like you're equipped to do this procedure.
Not to mention the fact that tube amps can kill you dead if you make the wrong move under the hood. Ampegs are especially dangerous in this regard.
If you have a problem with the amp and don't even know what a DVM is, then you should take the amp to a Tech. It will be cheaper that way in the long run. Paul
That was supposed to be $1999; I'd have to evaluate the OP's balance sheet before I made a judgment on his replacement value.
Back and alive!!!! If i did'nt know what a dvm is, it's just because i'm french, and we do not use this abbreviation. I'm not as "newbish" as you can imagine, it was some sort of humility manifestation for my first thread... Actually i'm used to work with high voltage, and i know a minimum about electronics. If i try to solve this problem alone, it's because the nearest place i could send my svt to do that damn "balance" thing would be at least 500 km from where i live...so... Once again, it's all about language, i probably know what it is in french, but i can't figure out what a dummy load is... EDIT: I found out. We call it "une charge passive" in french. Thanks for your patience, i understand your concerns.
