...at the moment, scorpion is down :)

...and apparently you've never read Voltaire.

Dans ses écrits, un sàge Italien
Dit que le mieux est l'ennemi du bien.

It is an aphorism meaning that insisting on perfection often results in no improvement at all.

Basically - perfection is impossible, so don't down improvement because it fails to be perfect.

like i said. Perfection is unattainable. So. If perfection doesn't exist. Then perfection has no factor in this discussion.

but realistically, if you can't achieve it and bring it to the masses, then the factors at work remain in place. As much as people will want to believe "the system" at work keeps everyone safe and presents proof in specific instances, I can match the same count of incidents that show we're anything but safe and that we're on our own.

I was bullied a lot in elementary school and middle school due to a genetic abnormality I have. The teachers and administration never did anything about it aside from giving my bullies a talking to (which made things worse). I wish schools would involve law enforcement in matters like this instead of sweeping it under the rug. Assault is assault, harassment is harassment, and it shouldn't matter where it happens. How many more columbines or suicides is it going to take before this issue is taken seriously?

the problem is going to go on indefinitely. Just like all boys are going to hear "you gotta man up", "take it like a man!", and "you're too sensitive" when they have issues, instead of paying attention to the actual problems. And then when they turn around and "bully" back, severely, everyone goes "wow, I never thought he'd do that. He seemed like such a nice guy. I never imagined poindexter would flip out and kill everyone". Maybe "poindexter" took off his coat one day and realized how many footprints were all over it because society supported him being walked all over.

Yeah, Im glad TBOT isnt some big building we have to go to to make posts.
scorpion might decide to come shoot the place up.

Hey, you know, the results speak for themselves. I said that this attitude of "let it slide" or "you'll be a big corporate exec while they're flipping burgers" or "You're better than that" breeds a very weak mindset. Buttons pushed over and over start to stick. All a person needs is a well planned 5 minutes to destroy life. And most times, from news articles I read, not even that.

What happens if you anger a dog repeatedly? He's going to snap.

Don't defy animal nature. Especially in animals like smart, honor-roll high school or college students.

In regards to bullies or control freaks (same thing to me) my thoughts have always been..."the one's with the biggest mouths are the one's who are most afraid." I've found this to be true too many times in life. I had a real bad run in with a boss who was totally out of control. Made life miserable for all around. One day he targeted me (for no reason), I had enough and went after him. Physically went after him and he cowared like a scared little girl. I didn't punch him but I grabbed him, got right into his face and was screaming at him at the top of my lungs. I didn't get fired and he really "mellowed out" after that.

Seems to me that if you are content within then you'd have no need to try and dominate, bully or control someone else. The problem is trying to figure out WHAT they are afraid of and WHY.

Thought's?

A late entrant here, but I wanted to start a similar thread here. I experienced my fair share of bullying, primarily in middle school and as a freshman in college.

More than just bullying, I find myself wondering as to what someone could do to help in a situation such as the recent Amanda Todd case. That one incident has really got to me. I don't know what I could have done to help had I seen her youtube video before her suicide.
