I was in Philly 5 years ago - having traveled from SF on some personal business and decided to eyeball the local Craigslist when I stumbled upon someone who posted a Modddulus Bass (with the 3 D's typo.)
They wanted $450 for a Fretless Bassstar. It had some grooves in the fingerboard from the use of round-wounds and the body was crazy heavy - like a boat anchor, due to the Kahler whammy bar bridge,
But I knew the neck alone was worth more than the asking price so taxi'd from Glenside to Narberth and checked it out.
Dragged it back across the country and handed it to Rich Hoeg (luthier to Bob Weir and many other Bay Area notables) and former Modulus Luthier who on my behalf obtained a NOS Flame Maple Body, new lighter bridge and a pre-amp rig. Ultimately he also planed the fingerboard and turned this beast into fantastic playing beauty. I play it frequently now and the extra's cost me roughly 6 so I got a 2 G bass for about 1 G - not a true bargain but a good true story!

The bass was $210 shipped to my door. It played and sounded good. I added a Hipshot bridge and a Nordstrand pup.
This is the story of two decent scores and one "score" that got away (short scale content):
-Squier Mustang $130 CL find. (I replaced black pickguard and added NM4's).
-Fender P-Bass Junior $150 CL find.
-Squier Vista Musicmaster. This one, the CL add posted was from someone at a high school selling three basses for $50. For all three. Once of those was the Musicmaster. I of course was 15 minutes late, but the guy who bought them was a guitar player looking to flip. He ended up giving me $50 off the asking price when he heard my story, so it cost me $350.

They dont really show up in collector conversations but I have read online that they are compared very closely to a certain Ampeg model and thats says something. In my experience with it I have been very happy, its got a great warm tone and is very quiet,no hum at all. I would buy one for $100.
Wait!, before we officially go there........Two month old Epiphone EB3 - $325, close to $600 new.
$40 brand new Corbin jazz, Set up great for practicing, plugged in it's a little underwhelming though . Be gettin some upgrades soon though.
i had one in my claws but I didn't include, as I have no pics, and i had to return it. my better half needed a tuner pedal, so i went to get her one. GC had a Spector Euro 4LX in purple. It was pretty beat up but functinally pristine. great neck, great frets, great electronics. I snagged it for $300, but did not return with a tuner pedal. my wife was none-too-happy. to remedy, i returned it a week later and bought her the pedal. i still miss that bass, but i love my wife and the happiness i enjoy when she is pleased. so....ya win some, ya lose some. once she saw the greatness of the deal, it was already gone, never to be seen again.
shoot, we doing amps now?!?

1992 Peavey Fury
Was on Craigslist for $100.
So I went to the woman's house and she told me she bought it new when she was in High School.
When I plugged it in, the pickup was dead, she felt really bad and offered to just give it to me...
I refused the free offer and gave her $40.
About a month later, an EMG Geezer turned up on Craigslist, I got the whole assembly in new condition in the package for $60.
I was pretty stoked to end up with a Geezer loaded Fury for $100.
Was on Craigslist for $100.
