HUGE TRADE GONE BAD

Wow! I've been following this for many hours. Almost 700 posts in less than a day. Well, as much as all of this sucks JPATA sounds like he wants to make things right. If it were me getting burned I'd probobly want to beat him to a bloody pulp. However that being said I think there should be follow up on this to see that he does get help. I for one would like to see a follow up in a couple of months after therapy. If he is banned for good he can report his status to other TB'ers. I have actually encountered a kleptomaniac before who was addicted to stealing (had to fire him) it was all he talked about (and did). I go to sea for a living and he was stealing from the ship and his shipmates. Lets hope he sees the light and is able to turn himself around. He's young so perhaps there is hope here. Maybe it's wishful thinking but it would be a wonderful thing if everyone here actually changed someones life for the better.

For all those here who tune after pages and pages of slanderous/irrelevant/relevant rhetoric and display your rage accordingly, you'll be happy to know that enough local members have confronted in-person (although this was not necessary as I was planning to ship this back tomorrow anyway) I am meeting with Waterpilot tomorrow so that he can assure its safe return away from my theiving dirty paws. Mobs will make a guy say anything he can to protect those he cares about. LISTEN THIS TIME, THE OTHERS ARE NOT INVOLVED. The band is golden and will do better without me, I MYSELF have resigned from them and all music.
Another post for you to all tear apart and constrew to how you see fit. If those involved would just respond to the outreach, maybe a few things could get settled. My free life is soon over I'm sure, but it would sure be great if I were even given the opportunity to attempt reparation

What a joke, so you quit the band?. More like the band got rid of you.

You're sorry you got caught, doubt you get help at all just blowing smoke up people's asses.

I agree with acronym. I mean, this is how psychopaths work. Or try to. They do whatever the hell they want until they get caught and then try to make people feel bad for them. This is STEALING. It's not some addiction to a substance that he can't control. It's all in his tiny psychopathic brain.

And also, his band members try to cover up for him saying it wasn't stealing and that he just sent the wrong bass.

I work the night shift on Friday here (UK) and I usually wind down with a book or film before getting a few hours in before a gig. It's now 9.21am and this thread has had me gripped.

I hope everything is resolved soon for all parties.

And regarding Evan I'd just like to say this:
For a long time I always sought to find the good in others and if this was a one-off circumstance, and he does actually right his wrongs, I would hope this community forgives him. However, I have learned over time that some people struggle to feel remorse for their actions; they'll happily deceive and manipulate others to get their way and only play nicely when they've been found out.

That said I have known a few people with psychological disorders who either turned into temporary kleptomaniacs or commit crime as a way of venting/lashing out. He may not be entirely to blame for his actions.

Whatever sort of person he is, I really hope he changes his ways... from what I can see from my desk there are three routes:
1 - He changes his attitude.
2 - He refines his art and continues to f*** over others.
3 - He eventually gets caught again and either faces jail, or encounters someone far less understanding than this community and receives the beating of a lifetime (or worse.)

The really sad thing is most leopards don't change their spots (unless they can afford plastic surgery) :(

Just my 2 cents.

I understand the impact mental illness can have on people and I have no doubt this kid needs some major league help. He may not be to blame but he is responsible for his actions.

So far he's proven little except the fact that he consider what he did a simple error in judgement and not a crime. That in itself is a complete avoidance of reality and shows a lack of responsibility as far as accepting the seriousness of what he did. He wants to downplay it.

To pose as separate individuals and possibly even as his band mate trying to get himself of the hook? Sorry but this kid is big time pathological. He needs help and he needs more of a reprimand than this board can provide.

I wasn't aware of the band making excuses, that's crap of them to do so.

Anyway stop feeling sorry for this sap, I been on forums long enough that this is just rubbish. He's only apologising because he got caught and scared if the Police were involved. If you guys didn't have enough 'substantial' evidence this guy would not give a rat's ass ripping you off again, or even come back and apologies for what has happened.

Well this was epic. I just sat down to check my posts and I stumbled on a Hitchcockian nightmare.....

The scary realisation for me was just how accessible our personal details are online. Which in this case may have helped resolve an issue but I'm sure the same methods could be used to wreak havoc.

The other thing that is scary is just how hard it is to dispel the BS from the truth. In chapter 3 of this opus (page 27ish) the masses began to turn on our protagonist. It's an interesting study in group dynamics I guess.

Posting those pics of the phony bass in the packaging was a good idea. It somehow reaffirmed my belief in the OP.

My take on trade deals.

Whenever someone puts something up "for trade" it should be handled exactly like an item that is put up "for sale". Would you ship a bass to someone without having the $ in your hands first? Of course not! Trades should be same way. "For sale" means trading for cash and "For trade" means trading for an item. When you agree to ship your bass at the same time as someone else is shipping their item to you, you are taking on a huge risk. 1) That the item is what's it's supposed to be and 2) that you even receive the item at all.

If you put an item up for trade get whatever you're trading for first!! If the tradee(buyer) doesn't want to agree to those terms pass on the deal! Shipping off your bass without having whatever you're trading for is like shipping off your bass before you get paid.

I'm really excited to find out if the Clement arrives, and I want photos when it does! IMO, the whole thing has been public, so it needs a public resolution.

I'd also like to see that Cirrus returned to its owner. It would maybe return my faith in humanity if this Evan guy really does come through.

My normal back problems had me up at 3am. I found this thread and read the whole thing. Here's my $.02.

First, that's some low sh!t to pull on anyone!!

Second, this totally makes me all warm and fuzzy towards our community. This isn't the first time I've seen TBers gather together. Heck, when I went through a major back surgery a few years back, a great group of TBers gifted me a bass as a get well gift!! It's a great thing that we can all have a place like this to gather and learn, and trade and sell.

Third, I'm a little concerned. I've done a deal or two here, but my "rating" is low, because of lack of experiences. Now I gotta worry that people won't deal with me because some moron screwed it up for everyone else!! Thanks, douche.

In closing, TB is a great place, but retires a certain amount of respect and honesty. It's a real shame when someone comes along and preys on honest people. But it warms my heart when so many step up to support a fellow musician.

I really hope everyone gets their gear back. And Donna, next time use a condom.

err ... One of the things we discovered in this thread is that there are a lot more than two people involved. And as to why we are getting involved, we're a community and we help each other out.

Exactly , everyone that uses the classifieds is involved.

OP , all the people who got ripped off and me for getting that dirt bags real address-if your a scammer I will go through as much trouble as needed to find you, I found you Evan. You better pray you never sold any of those basses you stole.

I dont think a kid should see prison time, it can really mess up a life but some probation would do you well.

I am one of the top 10 members that deals in the for sale forums and I have a mind like a steel trap , i remember and photograph all my gear , serial numbers etc. I buy , sell , trade and enjoy this community-if you try to mess with someone I will give any information I have and I have a lot of info and addresses saved to my paypal.

If your a scammer, f-off and take it to craigslist-its not happening here.

Wow I went to sleep thinking this turkey was cooked but woke up to find out that dessert was in the oven. Thanks to tb brothers for keeping this civil despite our anger and for the mods for looking in but letting things evolve. I don't believe a word jpata says. He is trying to avoid his 6 foot 6 cellmate and boyfriend with really bad body odor who he hasn't met yet. Funny that he says he can offer double the money to his victims as restitution. Make good on what you say then take a long reflective stroll to your local police station and turn yourself in. You need more than just having to pay back those people you shafted....

Three cups of coffee to get through this. Epic reading to say the say the least.

First, I have to tip my hat to all my bass brethren here. It's nice to see that some people on this earth actually give a crap about a stranger getting screwed. The sh!t storm tsunami wave created was unbelievable.

I try and learn valuable life lessons when the opportunity arises. Thus far, I have learned that:

1) Should I ever decide to turn to a life of crime, I will be pushing little kids down and stealing their lunch money before ever doing someone dirty at TB. It's safer with far fewer consequences.

2) Based on the picture in this thread, DW's are WAAAAAY overhyped here and clearly one of the ugliest basses that I have ever laid eyes on. :D

I tip my coffee cup to all of you that tried to help.

I would also like to say that while I believe in forgiveness I see a person who doesnt seem really remorseful for how he has hurt others but remorseful because the crap hit the fan.

He is young but only a few years younger then me, thus thats not a real excuse. I hope in time he learns how , and maybe he is right now, but i hope he learns how much this hurt others. I think prison nd "pushing this as far as possible" is a little harsh and can result in a 19 year old being a convicted felon for life. I feel probation is warranted however.

Well its late, If you need anymore info I can contact paypal and see if they have a phone number, but it sounds like its being handled and in mods hands.Hopefully the police seize his computer and see if this runs deeper like craigslist scams and other forms of cons, it may get messy the futher they dig
