I don't like black basses...

Yeah I agree nobody likes Black. Especially with a Maple neck and a tort guard. Or one of those 50's P basses with the baseball bat thick Maple neck.
Well some people like them I guess. Oh and BTW those are two beautiful basses you got there.
Don't let that cheapie MM SUB fool you. That $249.00 dollar bass kicks butt and easily holds it's own against the other two.

Precisely: Heaviest bass body I own, drill some holes, and.... no longer the heaviest bass body that I own. Of course, taking that to the next step, now the next heaviest body has become the heaviest, so it gets holes, and...so on. I have a bunch of really light basses. Some of them with holes. Actually, I have some chambered ones as well. I have only 1 bass with a completely solid body, and it was a really light piece of ash to start with.
I used to really dislike black instruments as well, but for some reason, not the case any more.
I've been wanting a 5 string and this may be my first venture into one, it's also black.

That one on the left is a parts bass. MIM 60th anniversary Alder body. Neck is the nitro 50's series neck. PUP is a duncan SPB-1 and the bridge is the Omega BA II clone. The Omega is every bit as good as the BA was. The bass really growls with the RotoSound RS66's on it. I keep the action sick low so it fret buzzes a bit if you dig in. Kinda like Chris Squier did on his RIC's. VERY classic rock sounding. Especially through that Bugera 1960 Infinium or my Dual showman head. Really grinds with the Acoustic NEO 15 cab and the two tc 12's.

Take a DIY'er who's a musician, kinda creative, not afraid to dive into things, and...put him through back surgery. This is what you get.
If it didn't work out, I'd just order a lighter body from Warmoth, so there was really no risk in the experiment. But it woreled out great - it still hangs great on a strap - not a hint of neck dive. I get positive comments on the sound of the thing (or maybe it's the way I jerk the strings around) and those are almost always from folks that are unaware that it's so...swiss cheese like from behind.

I agree wholeheartedly. I have no trouble obscuring it a bit - adding a bit of mystery, but just painting over it is not something I like.
Maple necks do the trick! Especially with the addition of Tortie-tort-tort-tort!
I felt black basses were as boring as it got. Turns out that tends to make them pretty cheap used so I couldn't complain. Black with white pickguard felt too generic but black on black (with maple neck) is easily one of my favorites aesthetically. Nowadays even the white pickguard is appealing to me occasionally lol.
