I don't much like facebook

I stay away from FB. Just too many ppl I'd rather not find me. Nobody I owe money to, just crazy ex's.

in the MySpace days, i couldn't use my real name for that same reason. But i still did manage to meet my future (ex)Wife on MS ... i don't regret that

First, not too familiar with how it all works.

Second, and this is the biggie, I accept friend requests or try and friend some of my old friends from back in the day (okay, way back in the day) and I don't recognize these quasi senior citizens! I mean they have the same name but they cannot possibly be my friends who were skinny and with hair last I saw them.

facebook just makes me sad.

I don't like it, and I'm not on it. If I want someone to know how I'm doing, I'll find them and say so. Same goes if I want to know how others are doing, I'll contact them. Too many other constructive things I could be doing rather than getting involved in others' pickles and negativity on a continual basis. A never ending time sapping stress trip IMO.

I don't even like cell phones, so I keep a landline and a bare bones prepaid Tracfone that I barely use. I'd rather spend a free weekend up north in campgrounds, waterfalls, lakes, trails, sunsets... where there is not a soul for miles.

I think people can create whatever reality they want on FB. I avoid obvious idiots, I delete people who become bigmouths. If people I truly like are overdoing it, I put them on mute quickly. I follow some highly qualified, old-school journalists who cover state and local issues, which keeps me informed. I have loads of musicians in my network who keep me constantly exposed to a curated variety of new music and art and events. I have dozens of old school chums who get a kick out of my baby pictures. There is a virtual yard sale in my county that I use to buy and sell odds and ends. Not much to complain about, really. I do tend to check it obsessively when I am nervous or distracted, so I try to keep that in check.

I've completely changed the way I use Facebook over the past year and really enjoy much more. I'm stopped following about 80% of my friends on there. Now I get updates from cool pages related to music, travel, photography, pop science, weird stuff...

Things I find more interesting than other people's daily lives.

FB makes it MUCH easier to keep in contact with far away people to some degree, and the 'private' groups are really good for the closer friends that are distances away and that I don't call regularly. However, as a single guy who's kinda a tad slutty (I own it), it's gotten me into trouble...
