I agree with you, but as I said, I love going to GC and indulging myself, and I play Fender Ps more often than anything. Forgive me; I'm still a relative n00b!

go back through our posts: you told me to name something the P cant do, I did, and you said I was referring to not being able to play Jazz on one (How you twisted that around is beyond me?)
and, OMG, Once again: i never said they were one trick ponies......but, yes, they are limited sonically by just having a solitaryl voice attribute, no matter where you place your plucking hand position or what technique you use. Thats just science/physics - not an opinion
I believe it is you that is playing semantics and it is also you that is so blinded by your belief system
and, OMG, Once again: i never said they were one trick ponies......but, yes, they are limited by not having enough physical voice attributes, no matter where you place your plucking hand position or what technique you use.
the versatility of the bass itself is pretty limited compared to many other basses. For some reason, they also take that as an offense
You're just contradicting yourself now.
I disagree, its been used to make practically every kind of popular music since it was invented. I dont know why you think I took any offense, I just disagree.
I'm saying variation of the sound of the bass itself. It doesn't have a whole of variation compared to say a double pickup bass, or whatever. The sounds it DOES have fit in to a great deal of styles. By itself though, there's just not as much variation as compared to other basses.
I'm not saying that you personally took offense to it, but I've seen a lot of people that have here on Talkbass.
I think the problem isn't so much the claim that P's aren't as versatile as certain other basses, but those other basses don't necessarily fit in where a P does most of the time either. To me, it's a moot point but for some reason people feel that an instruments versatility or number of pickups somehow make it superior to a Precision when the Precision was never meant to be anything more than what it is: a utilitarian tool that covers a wide sonic range that gets the job done 90% of the time. I would never expect a jazz, stingray, Roscoe or Ric to ever do what a Precision can do and vice versa. It's really a silly argument. Apples to oranges.
True. However, I usually see claims that the Precision is the superior bass over any of the others, so that's what my post is in response to. Honestly, any bass can really fit in to any mix if you try.
Where are those claims?
....
What is happening here?
Let's just agree to disagree. And that P basses are awesome.
I have an MTD KZ5 and an Heir 5 fretless. I have become addicted to the MTD Kingston line. I hope one day they'll out out a PJ.
I have to say my friend, that is the most stunning bass i've ever seen ( and I've seen a few ) the tuners, the finish, the image of it is all I can think about, I have to try and recreate that finnish some how, the color, going to have to attempt another build, ( as I rub my hands together with a blank look in my eyes )Not a Fender but this one is mine now.
SOLD - Rare Vintage Blade Precision Bass

thats the thing: many of those other multi-PU basses can get that P sound when needed so they do have the ability sound-wise to fit in anywhere a P-Bass is required that doesnt require the aesthetics of the instrument itself but the same cant be said in reverse for the single PU Precision, which was the entire point of the earlier debate...........At this point, if a person likes a P-bass because of how it looks, feels, mojo, vibe, etc than thats all find and dandy too and more power to the player....Its just funny how many P-Bass threads have to show up on TB per month for some enthusiasts to all post pics, hi5 each other, and reinforce each others opinion of the instrument. I see that more with P-basses on TB than any other instrument

Yeah, that's a sexy bass. The pickguard really brings it all together, as they say when quoting that movie about that guy and his rug.Thank you!
When it was first posted I wanted it but then it sold before I could come up with the cash. Apparently the deal fell through so it was available again. That happened just as I was selling another bass. It was meant to be. It needs a set up but plays and sounds so nice. Yes, the color is really awesome. It's got mojo!
You can find them in your daily Talkbass P bass threads, among other places.
If you really want to pull some, I will.
Where's the claims of the superiority of other basses just because they have more than one pickup?
Please do. Are you saying that you don't feel a more versatile, multi pickup bass is not superior, in your opinion, to a precision bass? It's really only in p bass threads where others feel so insecure as to feel the need to come and poop on the party, as if they don't have the choice to avoid "yet another P bass" thread. Why are people so compelled to constantly be present in threads about things in which they don't care for?
Okay, I'll snoop around and get some.
Yes, I do feel a more versatile, multi-pickup bass is superior...for MY needs. Maybe not for someone else's. But there are lots of answers on here to people looking at different basses that are just basically "get a P bass." They don't work for everyone.
Yes, I'm oh so insecure about my choice of bass. I mean, it's not like forums are meant for discussion or anything, right? Obviously they are just meant for high-fiving (as Spazz said) and circle-jerking. If anything, it seems like P bass players are the insecure based on the fact that they have to make so many threads declaring their love for them.
I like how you edited your post from where you questioned why people have to "constantly attack." Nobody is attack you. Just offering a conflicting viewpoint to that of the seeming majority. Sounds like you might be the insecure one.
I noticed you didn't answer my question about where you've seen the claims you've mentioned.
