I take both my basses with me. Some songs need a Yamaha J-style sound, while others obviously SCREAM for a P-bass.

I have quite a few basses and I'm having a hard time believing you don't have a favorite, trusted, go-to bass or two, I know I do. A backup, if I even bring one might be a (Major Problem) choice, but not really.
Depends on what your goal is, what you want to achieve..
Is your goal to have the two best Basses that will cover the majority of your set or is your goal to have the best Sonic tone that you personally like but may not serve the songs as well?

If you live in Panama City, FL then you have major problems.
Take the red one to the gig. Red guitars photograph best.
Close your eyes, pick one at random, put it in the car. Go back and repeat. Then five minutes before the gig, freak out, take both basses back into the house, and take the other two instead. Then, halfway to the gig, call your friend/mother/significant other and beg him/her to bring the two you left behind because you're certain you made a huge mistake and should have stuck with your first choices.
Arrive at the gig, set up all four basses, look like a rock star, post pictures of your rig and humble brag about it on Talkbass.

The only problem you have is that you don't have enough basses.

I think the OP's problem is that his basses are not liquid enough. If they were, he could sell them and buy one really good bass, and then he'd know what he was taking to the gig.
