The finish reminds me of the Spector Frank Bello Signature Bass. He made the first iteration of his signature bass purple because that was his mom and grandma's favorite color. He even named the shade of purple after them.

Not at all. People do that all the time because they like the slimmer necks. If I still liked and played Fenders, I would put a B width neck on a P or a J style bass.

The tint on the neck is the perfect shade of amber and the flame is excellent. I’m a sucker for block inlays, so check that box. The body color is pretty much the ideal purple hue to my eyes. I’d be curious to hear the different permutations of the active electronics. Well done! The only thing I’d add for my purposes would be a D-tuner.

Yes. NO, and I mean NO-body does that. But if you put Ken Smith Rockmaster strings with purple silks on that bass, all will be forgiven.

Very cool! I feel foolish for not grabbing another MFD P pickup before the company shut down and didn't realize that Mightly Mite had bought the remaining stock til it was too late- I used to have like 3-4 of them and stupidly sold them all over the years (apparently, thought I still had one but have never been able to locate it!). It is maybe my favorite sounding "non-traditional" P pickup, the only downside is its so hot that it overloads most pedals I've tried to use with it (I feel like its the hottest passive pickup I've ever owned, hotter than even the big MFD buckers or 90s ceramic-mag Gibson TB+ pickups).

Yes I have a J with a P neck, and it does feel "off" somehow and I usually much prefer P necks (and this P neck is a great one that I've used on a number of nice Ps in the past). Might just be a bad specific combo though

I've always wondered why there are so few 'active' P basses. I've often daydreamed about P bass with a Music Man control circuit.

I played a Sadowsky P once that sounded as amazing as you might expect (if you like the Sadowsky sound that is!).
I mean, why not put a pre in a P? (but I gave up my purist/retro grouch stance some time ago.....)

Back when you could get 70's Fender necks cheap, I did a few P bass necks on J bodies. They were super cool, but weren't keepers.

I'm currently in the matching necks with bodies club, even though they are both custom builds. If I want a J, I play that, and if I want a P, I play that. That said, I am a poor decision maker and don't generally reflect well on humanity.
