about 10 years ago i ordered a stingray, you could customize every aspect of it. not sure if you can still do that, but worth a try to get a slimmer neck.
A blowout Dimension H is much cheaper.

I hear ya. It's all good. Like P basses? Me too. Spend some quality time with an SB1 and it might just turn your head around. Happened to me....I'm really just joking around, but I find GL basses and guitars kinda ugly, I'll put my 58 AV up against any GL.. There is nothing anymore special about them compaired to higher end Fenders. However, I'm not saying Fender is superior to GL either.. Thats my opinion of course, and after 43 years in this game it ain't going to change anytime soon.![]()
I assure you, you aren't the only one who is now amused. So thanks for that.
It doesn't make any difference if you care or not, you cannot comment on the thing that matters most with an instrument because if the sound is great, a musician will find a way to get used to it. You probably would not think it sounds great, but you don't know.
In a world full of choices there is no need to compromise on any aspect of what makes a instrument desirable in my opinion. However, if you are willing to make those compromises for the sake of a certain sound then you are correct. I however am not willing to play something I am not comfortable with in my hands, and since I beleve that is where my true sound comes from I don't care about the particular sound of that instrument. Poor feel
only inspires me too put it down, and I didnt see anything that unique or special about this bass to think it would sound much different than whats already available. YMMV
you can't expect dodge neon to act like a dodge charger, different vehicles.
this coming from the guy who just posted the "it's summer, ain't got no cash, but good thing i'm in love with my axes right now and don't have GAS"
2 days later....
LOL
love ya cheese. btw sister sledge record we are family is my favorite bernard outing.
My point is that poor feel to you does mean a bass doesn't sound great, and that it might work just fine for someone else.
Exactly.. I was giving my opinion, and my standards will be bassed on my preferences. If it works for you thats all that matters..
That's fine, my problem was that you seemed to suggest the bass was crap solely because you didn't like it. As I said earlier in this thread, the Internet is full of people who sound great playing basses I would not buy.
In my opinion the bass is kinda crappy based on a few basic factors one of which is how it feels in MY hands, and it was my intention to relay that so I guess i got my point across. Like I previously mentioned I don't care what it sounds like at that point because it's just a basic instrument.. There was nothing groundbreaking about the electronics or anything else. If you disagree for whatever reason I respect that, and if it works for you great, but I stand by my opinion.
They will never be on par with CS or the AV line.. That is a fact, but you seem too need the last word regarding thier quality so believe what you will. After 43 years as a musician I'm more than confident in my assessments of gear. The one thing I think we will both agree on is its another choice, and thats always a good thing.I disagree with you in that I know the Dimensions are not crappy, at each level, they are par with Fenders other offerings at each respective level. As for you not liking them, that is simply your choice. I would not buy a Soundgear six string, but lots of players who leave me in the dust love them.
They will never be on par with CS or the AV line.. Fact
That is common sense because there is no Dimension AV or CS bass
I have owned one or two.
But you didn't answer my question. I respect your experience, what do you think Fender is doing so wrong right now? Considering their size and stature- I don't expect them to behave like a smallish boutique brand and wouldn't make a direct comparison.
I was given a 82 Musicman Stingray from a fellow musician as a gift (such a much appreciated blessing from my friend) it was a natural finished maple fingerboard bass that must have weighted 13lbs.. I never played it, and hated the bass, but held on to it for a few years due to it being a gift. What a dog, but it sold for over 2k through a dealer so I was happy.. Here it is years later, and I wind up buying another Stingray only this on is a 4H which I find I like better than the classics.. Go figure.![]()
I think your correct. I also think things are changing as we speak, and they are eliminating many models from the line up. There are making great instruments at the higher price points, and many great choices in the lower price points too. You just have to dig thru more to find the gems in the lower prices if you can, but I really feel like this is the golden age of guitars, and basses not only at Fender, but market wise. With all the choices, and great products available it really is a buyers market.Fender is diluting their brand with too many cheap versions of their flagship products and too many simple variations that are transparently money-grabs. I'd guess that they've gotten so big that they are stuck in the "executive churn" problem I've seen at several companies; That is - a new exec takes over a division / line, has new ideas and runs it for a couple of years... until he gets a promotion/headhunted - then all those ideas / product lines are swept aside when the new guy comes in.
I'm actually very happy with Fender's core MIA products - their basic US Made instruments are, in my opinion, the best they've ever made. They still aren't Lakland or Sadowsky - but they're not trying to be those guys.
