I like discontinued basses. Am I alone?

Oh, there's a lot of no-longer-produced basses I'd be interested in trying out if I came across one. Like a Fender RB Roscoe Beck.

I missed out on one of these also. They were being discounted for $650 at my local GC. I bought a used US MusicMan SUB instead. Neck was too big for me and I took it back the next day with every intention of buying that PBass. Of course it was gone .

Yeah mine was marked down to to $699. They're worth about that much now. I'm calling it a win.

I don't blame you . Only thing better than a great Jazz bass is two great Jazz basses.

I had a Ibanez ATK305 and like a dummy I sold it. But, what I really want is an ATK805e.

I like the Sabre myself. Found one a few years back at my local GC. Black with Birdseye maple . Went back a few hours later and it was sold. One of the best feeling necks I've ever encountered. IIRC , it was $900.

$900 is about what I paid for one back around 1994 in Nashville, TN.

Just picked up the IV in April. I've had the V since '98, but I'm not playing 5s as much these days.

There's a mint IV on Reverb for $1,850 right now.
Considering the Geddy & Tony Franklin are now $2,000, that's not bad for a bass considered one of Fender's best.

I'm always wanting discontinued basses, buuuuut it's mostly because I'm so freaking indecisive that by the time I decide I want something, they've stopped making them and sold out the stock

For me, these are the basses I like the most. All discontinued , no longer in production. They all sold well. And don't come up too often on the used market. When they do, they sell pretty quickly.

My least expensive Crafted in China Classic Vibe 60's PBass has increased in value.

My US Geddy Lee isn't discontinued as of yet but due COVID they aren't any available , prices have increased and no new ones are expected until next year.


I think I'm pretty set with these basses for what I do. I don't see myself buying or needing another.

I'm with you on that! The Ibanez SRA series were rad, I bought a 5er back when I started playing, a year or two before they discontinued the SRA line. I Definitely plan to hang on to it, the fretwork is great and the arch top body is super comfortable!

I'm typically not a big Fender guy (I just like to be different), but the Performer bass they made for a few years back in the 80s totally rocks. I'm planning on building a Performer inspired 5 string. It's to bad they didn't catch on.

Nope, all four of mine (3 BGs and one EUB) fit the bill and before those I had a Travis Bean that I bought new for another 35+ years after they went out of business.

A Fender MB5
