I like discontinued basses. Am I alone?

Pretty much every bass I own is discontinued. That's the catch of buying basses in the 20th century, or liking certain bargains in the market from the 20th century.
Quite a number of those are modified far beyond their stock offering--especially my 80s Peaveys.
My only current production bass is a '21 Squier CV 70s Jazz V, but I installed an EMG J5 set w/a BTS system, moved the jack to the side and got a matte black control plate for it.
A couple of my Deluxe Fender basses are at least 3 generations off of the current equivalent model.

Let me see…EBMM Big Al 5, EBMM Big Al 4, EBMM Cutlass, EBMM Caprice, EBMM Stingray Special Chopper Blue (well the last one is tricky but still…the color is discontinued)…

It's not that I like discontinued bass…it's that I love EBMM Discontinued Bass!

(oh and also a Fender Roscoe Beck 5…). Damn, I need to clear some…

USA Peaveys from 1983-1992 some of which have been modified
Guild Pilot 1985 made in Rhode Island
Yamaha Attitude Custom 1990 & Attitude Standard 1991
EBMM USA SUB Bass 2004

Classic Vibe 50's Precision from 2019 Indonesian is my only bass still in production.

I've two basses, both Yamaha. TRBX604, bought new, played 0% of the time. BB424, discontinued, bought used, played 100% of the time. So signs are promising....

A nicely discontinued Matt Freeman P might be in my future, but I need to find out more about the neck. The neck profile on the BB424 is ⅛" deeper than on the TRBX, and I've discovered my knackered old thumb much prefers that, it can stay nice and relaxed, not having to press inward.

If the Matt Freeman is as thin as the current CVs then it would probably not be for me. But I can't find any kind of specs for Squiers (nor MIJ Fenders) so I'm in the dark.

My least expensive Crafted in China Classic Vibe 60's PBass has increased in value.

My US Geddy Lee isn't discontinued as of yet but due COVID they aren't any available , prices have increased and no new ones are expected until next year.


I think I'm pretty set with these basses for what I do. I don't see myself buying or needing another.

The Matt Freeman neck is fuller. You would probably like it. If not you we hold no problem selling it.
