I don't have a particular discontinued bass that I like, but I do like a color that's no longer readily available from Fender: British Racing Green. I don't think it's even available from the Custom Shop.

Any color you can think of is available from the Custom Shop. British Racing Green is color code BG on page 33 of the Design Guide. Your wallet will thank me later.

These look so awesome. I never got why modern day Gretsch doesn't just reissue that one. Their bass lineup could use some more love.

You mean these? Ibanez Roadstar II's from 1983 and 1984. There's a white '86 in it's case somewhere. I guess I'm on the lookout for an 85 of some flavor to round out the set

I couldn't find it last night, but I'll look again. Not that it matters…..we're talking maaaaybe a retirement gift to myself—which is about 30 years away.

Second strangest move was to discontinue production 12-months later

(I believe they were made in the same factory as your beloved CV Squier.)

This is the bass that's come closest to curing me of GAS!

I like that one, and there is room for a third wide range humbucker in the middle!

I had a Daion just like this one for awhile. I kind of miss it, but I used it to cobble together a trade for a '67 P-Bass, so it worked out ok.

My electric guitar was discontinued (Fender Cyclone)
My Reverend bass was "updated" with inferior fretboard and plastic parts (Wattplower)
My new Fender P Bass Jr was only made 2 years.

So yeah, I love me some DCed instruments.

The darned Peavey T-40 keeps haunting my mind... i have never owned one or even played one but since I first learned of them, i have wanted one. I stopped looking after 3 kinda slipped through my fingers. I figure if there is one out there for me, it'll happen.
Otherwise, I love my ibanez Roadstar 2s and EXs.

A T-40 would make a good birth year bass for me (1980), but asking prices on those have literally doubled since I started paying attention maybe three years ago.

If Ibanez wants to build me a signature model, I will take an ATK that looks like one of those Ric-ish Roadstars

EBMM Big Al 4SSS with all rosewood neck. Here's another pic with my other EBMMs, though I just sold the 30th Anniversary Stingray. The Bongo may also count as discontinued since you can't get the HSp pickup configuration any more.

Those 30th anniversary Stingrays are among the heaviest basses I have ever played, but they're nice.

I had a Washburn B20, and a CiC Classic Vive 60s Squier Precision both burn in the fire (plus other various instruments). I still have the 2015 American Standard Jaguar. Yeah, I like discontinued basses.

Not buying that bass when they were out if my number one gear regret. It played so well, sounded beautiful, and looked stunning, and I put it down walked out of the store like an idiot. I hope they'll redo that one someday.

Those 30th anniversary Stingrays are among the heaviest basses I have ever played, but they're nice.

Mine was 10 lbs even, not bad at all for a mahogany body. I had a swamp ash '74 Jazz that probably weighed 14 lbs.

I think basic human nature in terms of "difficult to acquire" or uniqueness is inherent in most of us.
It's cool to be different.
However my desire begins and ends there. I was never motivated by monitory reasons for gravitating to these instruments. I bought them for me.

I played with a guitarist many years ago who had one of these as his only bass, in see-thru purple with EMGs if memory serves. Odd, because he played strictly vintage Fender/Gibson/Danelectro/Marshall when it came to guitar. I only played it once, but it made a good first impression.

Those particular Roadstars are odd in that they were all built in the 1980s and have a distinctive look, but they really don't look like what anybody imagines when they think "'80s."
