I like discontinued basses. Am I alone?

For all I know, my Epi EB-0 may be discontinued. It's no longer shown on the Epiphone site any longer. If it is discontinued, that's a damn shame. A fine well made bass, with a tradition.

30 years is plenty of time to save up for one. You may even luck out and find the Mod Shop will add that color. I was in a similar boat but got very lucky in that regard. For the longest time I wanted a solid rosewood neck. Custom Shop was the only option but because of that specific, it had to be master built adding another $2k minimum to the cost. Mod Shop offered solid rosewood necks for a short period of time, which was my gateway in. I'm routing for you and hope it eventually works out!

You are correct, sir….BRG is indeed available. My bad. I think I was fatigued from looking at all the different (some similar, like Sherwood) greens and missed it. I had a feeling that a "heritage" color should be available, although given the very scattershot history of models (I think more Squiers than Fenders have had it as an option) how deep the heritage goes is a matter for debate.

As for the mod shop, I will admit to having played around with it a couple of times, only to have the price bring me back to Earth. However, I didn't know they switched out options, so I'll keep an eye out. Thanks!

Well I have one but considering selling it. I mostly play my classic series 60s jazz. Get's the same sort of sound. That one is also discontinued.

I wish MM would bring back the Stingray Classic.

Yup. Most of my faves I lust for are discontinued.
Ric 4004, EBMM Caprice, EBMM classic, Sterling HS, SLO special, Ibanez ATK, etc.

I played with a guitarist many years ago who had one of these as his only bass, in see-thru purple with EMGs if memory serves. Odd, because he played strictly vintage Fender/Gibson/Danelectro/Marshall when it came to guitar. I only played it once, but it made a good first impression.

Those particular Roadstars are odd in that they were all built in the 1980s and have a distinctive look, but they really don't look like what anybody imagines when they think "'80s."

right? They're very… vintage-esque? To me they are a cross between a Ric and and stingray- at least the ones with the super J6 pups. I think back to what people were actually playing on stages in the early 80's, they do scream "80's" but not in a neon nostalgia kind of way

EBMM Big Al 4SSS with all rosewood neck. Here's another pic with my other EBMMs, though I just sold the 30th Anniversary Stingray. The Bongo may also count as discontinued since you can't get the HSp pickup configuration any more.

That's the 30th Anniversary Stingray I just sold. Mahogany body, birdseye maple neck with trans crimson finish. It is a gorgeous bass.

Not sure if that bass counts as "discontinued" any more:
CME Rickenbacker 4005CX!

The 4005CX is quite different to the original 4005. The relationship between the two is similar to that between a P bass and a Mustang. The CX is short scale (30" vs 33.25" for the original), and sports a different body to the classic 4005.

Also, the 4005 I picked is from a tiny run for the European market, with an "f" shaped sound hole rather then the usual Rickenbacker slash.

Not at all. My two main basses are a 2014 Fender American Deluxe Dimension V and a 2016 Ernie Ball Music Man Caprice and—yep, you guessed it—both of them are discontinued.

Ibanez SR506M (version with maple neck and fretboard)
Yamaha TRB 1005

Well in the case of MM, if it isn't a Stingray or a Sterling, eventually it'll be discontinued.

The Bongo has been around for a while, though. What they really discontinued a while ago were low prices lol.

Out of the 9 basses I own, only one bass is a current model, my 2019 Player series Fender Precision. Five are vintage, 3 are about 15-20 years old.
