I used 2x15 cabs for many years, I loved the sound of huge and I mean Huge notes,, but the fast notes,, 2 x15 had a hard time catching up... 10's amazed me the first time I used them, but wheres that earth quake under your feet? 8x10s are mint,, but my back is getting older on tour,, it kills me.. 4x10. its just enough for 2 Marshall 4x12 to play with, in almost any room,, but for stadiums,, 8x10 all day long.

Back in the 70's, I had a Bassman 100 stack with a 2x15, and also used a Kustom 2x15 for brief time- it was a loaner. Both, at least to my ears at that time, were very nice to play through.

Some people seem to feel that tens are a bit "slow" and this may have been the case back in the day, although certainly not a fault. Modern technology seems to have caught up on this IMO and just as tens are a feature of modern technology so are the newer fifteens. I really am basing this comment on my experience with the Bergantino NV215 which certainly seems to have much more punch than the fifteens I used to use in the seventies and also is a much fuller range speaker than the old fifteens.

I've owned a Peavey (deep) 2X15 with black widows and a Mesa Boogie RoadReady 2X15. Both were EXCELLENT cabs (Mesa being a little better sounding but the Peavey was great). The Mesa was smaller but WAY heavier. The Peavey was just huge. They both just became too much of a PITA to haul around. I'm totally gassing for a Schroeder 1515+L though.....that thing looks amazing (on paper)!

I love the pants flapping tone of 2X15s....just not the size or weight.

I have a 2X12 Avatar with DeltaLFs. Love this cab....kinda a compromise between a 4X10 and a 2X15.

I always have a 2x15 in the stack,l if I am forced to use one cab it is always a 2x15. I run 15s and 12s, don't much care for 10s

I see you have a 1520 and either a 1551 or 1552 cab run by what appears to be a Super Bass! That's almost identical to my bass rig. Except, I've never had the stock Sidewinder speakers in my cabs (the 1520 came to me empty, and the I have a 1551 which came with G15s, which were damaged in shipping, so it now sports JBL 2225Js), and I run 2 Super Basses, each powering one cab. Are you running the stock Sidewinders? How do you like them? I have a 1552 with the Sidewinders coming soon, and I'm very curious as to the tone and volume of them. The speakers I have in my 1520 - Celestion BG12S-100 - didn't like living in a ported cab (at least this cab with those rectangular ports, anyway), so I sealed them up.

This is my rig in our reahearsal room:

Thanks for any info.

Cheers!

Nice Rig Clammy ! My Marshall is a 1972 Marshall Major that I have used since 1984! It was recovered when I got it one of these days I'll put it back to original. My JCM 800 cabs came loaded with Celestion Sidewinders, I never much cared for them and have swapped them out for Eminence. The Sidewinders are real harsh to my ears.

I was playing a Mesa Road Ready 2x15 w/EV's through a Super Bass of '78 vintage. Needed more-just added a Reeves Custom 225 to the stable. Last gig I used the Reeves with the Mesa cab and an Ampeg 410hlf. Great bottom end all nightlong! The band loves the tone. I wasn't completely happy with the Ampeg cab-seemed kind od scooped in the mids, but the combo worked. I would like to add a Marshall bass cab to the 'herd' just haven't found the right one.

I'd LOVE to get a Bass Major one day. The 2 Super Basses really crank it out, though, hehehehe... ;)

Which model Eminence speakers do you have in the cabs? And did you originally use the Sidewinders with your Major?

Thanks.

Cheers!

Geeze I have used tons of different cabs over the years with the Major. One of my favorites is a mid 70's Marshall baffeled 2x12. I swithched to Eminence Deltas a number of years ago because they are relatively cheap and sound good. I go through drivers, I hate blowing exspensive ones.

Really? You blow drivers with the Major? Wild!

How do the Deltas sound in the 2x15 cab when running the Major? How would you describe the tone? Are you running Deltalites or one the regular magnet ones? Sorry for all the questions, but the JBLs in the 2x15 cab just aren't the right drivers for that cab and it sounds really weak especially compared to the 4x12 on top, so I'm looking for suitable replacement drivers for the 2x15.

Are you also running Deltas in the 4x12?

Thanks.

Cheers!

Love my mesa 215, there nothing mushy or boomy sounding about that cab. Those EV's are among the punchiest and focused drivers I've had the pleasure of using.
I will always keep this cabinet around, even though later this year I'd like to add a mesa 810 to the rig, this 215 is still staying here.

And as far as weight....big cabs are easier to roll and tip and slide them into the back of the truck, no dead lifting. I find it harder on your back dead lifting those small modern cabs (410's, 212's etc).
