I Need A Geeky & Uncool Bass...

Geeky and uncool? Look no further:

The bass is pretty lame, too.

man I hope you know John:eyebrow:

All these weird vintage basses are a bit more "dorky" than geeky to me. Uncool, but without the hi-tech innovation of say, a Steinberger to make them geeky.

I agree 100%. My first thought when I heard 80's geeky was Steinberger. But then I saw the pictures of the group and it seemed to be heading toward the uncool side of the geeky ledger (as opposed to DEVO or Talking Heads who were geeky and cool). The Steinberger is way too cool for the taped-up eyeglass pants-hiked-hiked up nerds in those pictures.

How about a big old Ovation that could maybe go either way? The sliders have some geek cache but the overall effect is still kinda nerdy.

Man, the Ovation Magnum goes the way of super cool. The one I own is my second, so I'm entitled to saying that.

EDIT: To be on the cutting edge of geekiness, get [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]. Or if you want sliders, [Invalid or Expired Link Removed].

This is starting to remind of the "Not-so-Hot chick that you think is Hot" thread. Somewhere between 25% and 50% of the submissions seemed pretty hot to me.

Lots of different ideas about geeky and cool/uncool. For the record, my idea of cool is a natural finish Peavey T-40 but there are far geekier basses out there.

cdef - those were great links and I have to agree with you; if you want geekiness or sliders it would be difficult to top either of those basses.

My gut reaction to this question, before I read 11 pages of replies, was this.

Take the Squier Badtz-Maru and replace the pickguard with one of Mario.

Then I realized, 80's geek. And have changed my mind to He-Man. Except He-Man is too manly. So I changed directions, keeping the theme.

To me, those just SCREAM nerd.

EDIT: And yes, I sat here at work, ignoring my actual job, to photoshop those.

EDIT 2: Now that I look at it, I would totally play an Orko bass.
