I have seen that. It is intriguing, but I'm not sure if a combo will do it. There is a Mesa Walkabout Scout 12 at a local store. It sounds great, expensive, but great. I was close to buying, but I'm not sure when I get to a non PA gig, or outside with the jazz band, if they will cut it.

I'm sorry but that is a rubbish excuse! I'd suggest you've gone through so much stuff because you always think the grass is greener on the other side.
I'm perplexed that you continue to over-generalise even after all this time. There is a WORLD of difference between a 100W 1x12" combo and a 500W 2x12" combo.
It's a shame you sold the Eden WT550 and Berg HT112, it seems that was the closest you got to a stable rig. Have you considered buying them again?

I know. The Carvin might be worth a look. The Mesa was also killer - just don't want to make the same combo mistake again.
Thought about it a little. The think is, I'd need 2 Bergies as one just didn't have the lows I wanted. You're right, it was close.

Oh, get an Acme! (I don't normally say this repeatedly to other people but everything you write shouts Acme, Acme, Acme!)
It seems one HT112 was loud enough for you but didn't have enough bottom. Phil W used my Low-B2 before getting his UL112 and they were equally loud but the Low-B2 had more bottom. The UL-112 is at least as loud as an HT112. So if an HT112 was loud enough, a Low-B2 will be loud enough and have a TON more bottom. And you can't deny that they're much less hard on the wallet than other boutique choices.

Vinny, how would you describe the tone? By that I mean is it old-school, modern, flat? That combo looks very good to me. Not in the sense that I'm going to get one, but I'm just curious. It sounds like the perfect gig-rig for several people I know.
I really like the EA heads. But just like any other head, it depends on the cab you're using.
Those Carvin cabs look pretty good.

The person that has one localy is by far a much smoother finger player then I am, I tend to dig in a little more.....okay, a lot more
The tone that he gets from it is very smooth sounding, it delivers a nice low end thump and the high end does not make you want to tilt your head like a dog when it hears something. So I guess I would say it is kind of old school/flat, to me the newer GK amps have what I would call a modern sound (to give a point of reference from what I call modern) and I would say the Carvin doesn't sound anything like that IMO....but again it has a lot to do with how this person plays.
But even with all the Carvin bass gear I have owned I would say it sounded very close to the older Carvin PB900 head that I used to run and it's exactly how I would have described it's sound *old school/flat*.
If I dug the combo thing that Carvin would be my first choice, I like the design, features and tone.

You're talking about the combo with the B800 right? I have just the head > b800 and love it. Flat and deep. Its built like a tank and sounds very nice. Compared to my Wt405 I have a difficult time saying one sounds better than the other flat. I like both, but I think I would give the b800 a slight edge as it sounds deeper flat. Also, I like the EQ setup on the b800 better as it has more of what I like. Plus, I think the b800 has a better build quality. I would want to baby the Eden more, but with the b800 I think it will last for years. I havent played thru a Carvin cab but that Carvin 115 looks very intriguing.
I havent tried Carvin's older stuff, but the B800 combo or no, is impressive... especially for the price. Of course, that's been said many times around here!

Cool. That makes me more interested in recommending it. I know a couple of guys that would find that to be right down their alley, but ordering something from Cali without hearing it makes them all nervous. They aren't really gear heads. The only thing they know is what GC carries.Jason,

I'm just a little leary about Carvin. I konw there's a trial period. I have owned a Carvin bass - a fretless 6. The thing is I didn't like the electronics in it so I put Barts in. It was much better. Everyone says good for the price, but I don't see a lot of Carvin in profiles.
I'm not sure that a combo is the way I want to go - even though they aren't all the same and 500 watts is different than 100 watts. I don't want to b eunderpowered again, and a head and cab are easier to move - usually - than a combo.

I am with you on the Carvin Basses, there electronics have never been pleasing to my ears. I have a 90ish LB75 that I have swapped electronics out of four times now......and it will soon be five once I figure out what I want to try next! it is a great playing and well built bass though.
I would assume there electronics in there basses have gotten better since mine was built.
As far as Carvin Bass amplification gear goes, all I ran for over 15 years was an all Carvin rig
PB15 preamp
PB900 head
FET1000 poweramp
(2) V410 cabs
(2) V118 cabs
That setup was used a minimum of (3) nights a week from 1989 - 2004, the majority of the time it was moved by roadies (yes, all my gear was in road cases ) and I never had one single failure, not one.
I am hoping all of the gear I have now can survive as long as all the Carvin stuff did.
And as far as I know all of that gear is still being used by others here in my local area.
