I Present the IdiotBox Effects's Blower Box

SO the other day I went to play a bit with my brother in law. He hadn't seen the blower box yet.

I walk in and say I have a new toy, you'll like it.

He's like you and your pedals.. just play bass....

I open up the bag, lay down the pedal board and he goes OMG! *** does this do?!? and steps on the blower box!

He did not do that with the Cali76tx

My buddies did the same! They now appreciate the B3K after really hearing me with and without it (also what it adds to the BB), but with the BB they were like, "What is THAT?" To which I responded, "Pure heavy," and switched it on. It's quickly becoming my OD sound, with a mild B3K on for "clean". But B3K alone is getting less use after being paired with the BB.

to be clear, i'm not 'advertising' or 'advocating' the cloning of the blower box, or any idiotbox effect. I highly recommend supporting the original builder (which is what I did when I bought mine). his pedals are way more than reasonably priced and sound great. I have no intention of making anymore of them either. I just wanted to see if I could build one for myself in a smaller enclosure, with all of the controls on the top that's all.

i hope not. i LOVE Matty and would hate to see someone tracing and profiting off all of his hard work.

i traced the circuit in mine and just built an exact clone of a blower box only in a smaller enclosure (1590B). it sounds identical but since i socketed the Jfet's drain transistor so it has more output than the stock one.
i'm only going to keep one but i'm not sure which one i'm going to sell. i modded my original so it has a lot more output so with the gain/drive all the way down it can still go way past unity gain.

right on. I love Matt's work too. IMO, his BB is a steal for what he asks for them and I recommend anyone that wants the best rat style bass distortion pedal to buy one from him. besides that, he's a pleasure to deal with too.

It's likely the etched box that he needs to catch up on. All these posts are positive for Idiot Box in general building a solid product with no reported field issues posted. Means he's on point with QC. Thumbs up Matt, keep up the good work.

Mine too. Just tried out my BB with my MusicMan Sabre Classic for the first time this weekend. With every bass I own, this pedal just shines. Not something I can say about my other distortions/ODs.

I have to say, the BB plays really nice with the Rusty Box. It plays really nice anywhere in my chain with my other pedals. It does play nice with both my passive basses. However, so much stuff happens on my signal before it hits the BB that I don't think it can be considered a passive signal at that point.

It does love both my split coil mustang and my dual humbucker semi-hollow. It's all good.

Dude it is ALL good. I have the same exp. It still amazes me that no matter what I stack with it, it sounds great. Any dirt I stack with it it sounds good and it doesn't get too crazy. If anything it mellows itself out. The signal I mean.

I have the cool buzz bass fuzz in possession, but haven't played through it yet.. Was very intrigued by the bass fuzz because it has no knobs, just a filter switch and a gain trimpot, and the Sean Penn graphic is totally rad!

The cool buzz is decent, I like limited control fuzz boxes... it just didn't hit a voice I was looking for.
The mad doctor stutter is interesting, but ultimately ends up feeling like a square wave trem to me... despite it not being one.

I'll try a blasteroid at some point probably.

I've tried the Blasteriod, Mad Stutter, Death Ray, and Lazer Fuzz. All of them were awesome in their own ways. Loved the Blasteroid the most.

I have always wanted one of his stutter boxes. They always personified what a stutter effect should be to me. The blinking light are a HUGE plus

Between my Shape Shifter and my custom little stutter box from Saturnworks I have all the stutter effect I could ask for and more. The Shape Shifter is a Trem but with the depth/shape/wave/ratio functions it does a convincing stutter no problem. It is the best trem I have ever tried! It has flown under the radar and didn't get much recognition but the thing is awesome. Especially since I got it new at GC for $70!
