I Present the IdiotBox Effects's Blower Box

I just joined the BB club last week. This thing is ridiculous! Gregmon, and several others at the pedal breeders thread, turned me on to this jewel. Soooo glad I didn't go for a RAT. I heard they lost a lot of low end, and that's why I hadn't pulled the trigger yet. Glad I waited. It even does a kick a$$ synth tone with chorus. (MXR Bass Chorus Deluxe to be exact.) Plus, the pedal looks awesome, and it comes with a sticker!

Hey, I'll be the first to admit that I did not pay attention to people raving about this pedal until (Sir) Mjac started this thread. There was discussion of it in the Breeder, PYPB, and What's coming threads but I just was not in the market for it. Then, I ordered this purely as a space saving measure. And, wow, it's just the total package and I love it. I know we all keep saying it, but it needs to be repeated: that simple two band EQ is a great design for this particular kind of distortion.

It does indeed do great synth with some help. I have been experimenting with different chorus sounds from the Orbital since I got the TAFM and the BB definitely adds to it.

Also, anyone who has a RustyBox, the BB is so awesome with the RB.

Actually he built his! He was starting from scratch so he was able to use a smaller circuit board. I'm thinking the stock board might be too wide but I'll sure find out :)

To tide you over or let you start your rehousing planning (crappy cell phone pic but it should be good enough to give you an idea of the insides...):

You know it shuman! The RB is sort of like the B7K like that, in it really adds depth and more clearness to dirt and other pedals. I go through stages where I think one or the other at times. But now that I've been playing with both engaged many more times that not, it's hard to switch either one off.

Thanks man! That circuit board looks like a tight fit but Ive taken the grinding wheel to a circuit board before :)

I could care less about having a battery so that's not a concern, and the enclosure I have is already pretty much drilled for that exact configuration. That 4th pot will be the only problem I think.

If I do it, it will go in this enclosure or one similar to it with the same drilling pattern:
Of course I've got to absolutely love the pedal itself before I even consider it!

Johnk gamma drive is running before my BB at the moment. You guys running the RB before or after?
Have not run this pedal stack into the VTRM yet, need to do that today. Been using the 400RB with the 2x15 lately in the living room. Nice large space to be sure to get some distance between me and the speakers.

You could un mount that one pot as well. Given that it will be long in the vertical axis, if the pot is removed, you could mount the board on the lid. That would give you all the room needed for the pots and jacks. Your wiring will need to account for disassembly, but it's not a big deal.

Ron FN Swanson greeted me at my door last night. What a perfect fuzz, zippy, velcro, touch of upper octave(but still works with up to about three string chords on guitar), punch through super middy, not icepicky, and no background noise at all. Works great on both bass and guitar too. Sweet Leaf riffs through this into a EHX Small Stone was pure bliss.

I know the Blower Box does the high gain thing proper but does it do low gain overdrive well? I have been using a Joyo Ultimate Drive which is pretty good but not as good as the Way Huge Pork Loin I used to have. I am trying to decide if I should buy another Pork Loin or get a Blower Box.

It does low gain well too, though some people have issues at achieving unity volume with very low gain settings.

I don't have my BB yet, but I think the SolidGold FX Beta is the cream of the crop for low gain overdrive, and I've been through most all of the usual suspects...Loins, Berries, VMT's, SFT's, STD's, you name it and I've had it. The Smallsound/Bigsound Mini is also fantastic at this. I'll be able to compare the BB to both of them in a few days, but I think the BB is just voiced differently from the fat, tubey low gain overdrives.

Gonna gets me a Blower Box. Then I will be BB squared since I already have a Sanford and Sonny Bluebeard!

I was too until my Bluebeard went to a new owner yesterday :(

I actually noticed a bit of low end loss kicking the Bluebeard on when using the Blower Box always on. I stacked them though and would stomp the Bluebeard to take things up a notch, probably not noticeable using them separately or with the tone quite low on the Bluebeard.

Went looking for a fuzz with a clean blend and really like the Blower Box with the B:Assmaster. Would have loved to keep the Bluebeard as it is awesome but money is a bit tight :(

Typing this post on my phone has made me appreciate being able to shorten either pedal to BB ;)
