It does low gain well too, though some people have issues at achieving unity volume with very low gain settings.
I can see this, it's definitely not the loudest pedal. I've not spent too much time down there though

Thanks, yeah the voicing is what I was worried about. Right now I am missing that fat, tubey low gain overdrive tone. I can coax that sound somewhat out of my Fender Sub-lime Fuzz in the low gain setting, but would like to get even closer for that always on sound. My EQD Speaker Cranker I have can get there but I really have to push it and then I am getting way above unity volume, but low speaker cranker settings are perfect for just getting more out of your bass, making it come alive.I don't have my BB yet, but I think the SolidGold FX Beta is the cream of the crop for low gain overdrive, and I've been through most all of the usual suspects...Loins, Berries, SFT's, you name it. The Smallsound/Bigsound Mini is also fantastic at this. I'll be able to compare the BB to both of them in a few days, but I think the BB is just voiced differently from the fat, tubey low gain overdrives.
I was too until my Bluebeard went to a new owner yesterday
I actually noticed a bit of low end loss kicking the Bluebeard on when using the Blower Box always on. I stacked them though and would stomp the Bluebeard to take things up a notch, probably not noticeable using them separately or with the tone quite low on the Bluebeard.
Went looking for a fuzz with a clean blend and really like the Blower Box with the B:Assmaster. Would have loved to keep the Bluebeard as it is awesome but money is a bit tight
Typing this post on my phone has made me appreciate being able to shorten either pedal to BB![]()
I hear you on the Bluebeard. I have been somewhat unhappy with it of late. It farts out with my bass on fast lines or when I dig in too much. The Fender Sub-Lime is muffy and retains more bass to my ears. I play guitar and the Bluebeard shines on that so I will probably keep it around. It is one pedal I am afraid to sell, since they are hard to come by. I am also not digging the Joyo Ultimate Drive, lots of love for OCD and clones on bass but kind of meh to me.

LOL I know I just want them all. Yeah I will skip the Blower Box until I get the low gain sound I want first. The other trick for me is finding pedals that work great on both bass and guitar if not I will have a twenty pedal chain LOL. I love the Fender Sub-Lime but it is huge and only works on bass and now I am really only digging the Bluebeard on guitar. So the SSBS Mini seems like it might be the ticket, unless the Beta will do guitar too, or the modded Pork Loin you mentioned. Not sure the BB is the best option for low gain tubeyness. I think it's a Must have though if you want anything related to a RAT sound. It's an amazing pedal. On the Pork Loin side, JohnK's mod seems to take it the extra mile and get it to do great sounds. I will be modding mine soon.
I will agree that the Beta is great for the old school, sound as well. Best thing would be to own them all![]()

Thanks, I will keep an eye out for what you sell off then. The SS/BS Mini and Beta have become two of my very favorite pedals. Sadly once the Blower Box arrives I don't think I will be able to keep them both unless I get rid of my Agro or B3K and it sure won't be my B3K. So it comes down keeping a low gain, fat tubey pedal (Mini or Beta) and a distortion pedal (Agro or BB). The Mini is way more versatile, but the Beta is so fat and thick. Mini would be better on guitar for sure though because of the built in EQ and bias controls, and the more middy voicing.
The Mini has caught my eye recently, but I have no need for it. All my OD needs are currently satisfied, and I'd have to get rid of one to get the Mini. What are your thoughts on it? Might be on the short list for next time I get an OD.The SS/BS Mini and Beta have become two of my very favorite pedals. Yeah, the B#K series are a little more trebly than some like. I dig mine, but a lot of the people who had that complaint dug the Vintage pedals because it was a more natural, warm tube sound. Really, the B#K pedals don't sound like tubes at all. I mean, they can get a little tube bite, but they aren't nearly as warm. However, I use a MESA 400+, so I just use the blend control to my advantage, and let that natural tube sound mix with the B3K.I really didn't care for the Darkglass BK3 I had. Too much treble to my ears, but that's just me, lots of people really dig them.

You've made me look at the Beta now, and WOW! That is EXACTLY the sound in my head for low gain dirt. THAT might be my next pedal now! Either way, you've definitely given me some options, so thanks!I really like the Mini, you can get some really neat tubey sounds out of it. It's not sharp/trebly like a B3K or Agro. It's fat and round, but not as thick as the SolidGold Beta. It's great to get that Allen Woody sound from the first couple of Gov't Mule albums. The Bias control lets you get super sputtery if you like that. It reminds me kind of a Fuzzricious Dark Driving but can get cleaner and of course sputtery. It's got a lot of range and you can boost/cut bass and treble. Fantastic pedal. I almost hate that it overlaps with my Beta so much as I'd like to keep it!
I was lookin' into a RAT pedal of some sort, and ended up with the BB. I absolutely love it! It's one of those pedals that sounds good by itself, but it also compliments every other pedal I have. What mod did you have on the ODB-3?That Mini and Beta sound tasty. Thought I would mention the Ron Swanson Super Fuzz does punchy, bitey, bit of sputter sound but in a Fuzz way, so I think the Blower Box and BK fans might really dig it on bass. I still miss my modded ODB-3 and the VFE Alpha Dog rat clone I had, so think I still want to land a Blower Box eventually.
It had all the Wampler mods, treble cut and mid boost, but it didn't have the high gain mod done. I think not having the high gain mod done made it sound better than other modded ODB-3's I heard. Even though it didn't have the high gain mod done it still had plenty of gain like a mid gain overdrive pedal to full on distortion pedal. I really wish I didn't sell it especially when I watched the Blower Box videos on youtube as the modded ODB-3 sounded very, very similar to it.I was lookin' into a RAT pedal of some sort, and ended up with the BB.
