I Present the IdiotBox Effects's Blower Box

I was just curious. I guess I'm having a hard time believing the BB wasn't loud enough. Like I told you earlier though, I haven't been able to crank it in a band setting, and I'm also using it in a bedroom (Man Cave).

Oh I thought the same thing too. When I first got I was under the impression it seriously screamed. And it does, don't get me wrong. But it changed for me in a band setting. I could crank the output almost all the way up but then I had bad feedback issues. Not the good kind. I needed more juice out of it. I heard another guy or two say the same so I don't feel crazy. My band is indeed loud, too loud at times, but even still, I was struggling to keep up when the BB was engaged. Now, it's absolutely perfect. I will probably be using it all the time now.

It is very loud, most of the time. I feel like, sometimes, depending on how I stack it, it runs out of a bit of juice. For now, I just crank the loop it is in when that happens... soon, I will mod it too ;)

But, this is no way a knock on the BB, it's a GREAT pedal...

Yeah, I'm probably gonna go ahead with the mod myself. Even at lower volumes, when I stack with my other dirt pedals, as good as it sounds, it starts to feedback, so I can only imagine how bad it is at louder volumes.

it's plenty loud if you run the gain up, but if you run the gain very low and turn the bass down, it barely reaches unity gain.

Yes, I never meant to say that the BB was or is a bad pedal or inferior. It's a bad a**. But with the boost, to me, it's even better. Again, for me, perfect.

Yeah, definitely! Honestly, I think IdiotBox could make a whole line out of this pedal. IdiotBox, IdiotBox + Boost, IdiotBox + Boost + second distortion setting. Although, in all honesty, when you look at it carefully, you may as well buy a second one for a second setting... :)

Amendment my previous statement: the BB has plenty of treble, but I have the B3K in front with the boost on. That's my treble source. Had the B3K off briefly today, and my dirt was instantly lost. Don't get me wrong, my treble knob was at 8:00, so there's plenty of room to add, just being clear that the BB isn't as trebly as I had thought.

Yeah, I ran into the same problem. I like the boost on the B3K as well, but it's too much with the BB engaged. What I did was turn the boost off, and add more treble from my bass to make up for it. Then, when I engage the BB I can just turn the treble back down if need be instead of having to bend over to flip a switch, or trying to use my foot to flip it and hittin' one of the other knobs.

Good thinking! Maybe I'll give that a shot.

+1 I have the Mini and run it after the BB. The Mini is my favorite OD for bass right now, and it sounds fantastic when my son uses it for guitar. Especially happy with the limited top-jacks version, which looks great and takes less space on my board.
I was youtubing The Beta and The Mini videos last night. That Beta is sweet and the guy at Prymaxe was even rocking it on guitar some which sounded great. I couldn't find any good low gain videos on the The Mini though, everyone was kind of pushing it and messing with the bias knob for some craziness, which is fun, but I really wanted to hear lower gain settings on it.

Not sure if you saw the bass fuzz demo. You can hear short bits at lower gain settings at 20, 38, 1:45, 1:54 and 3:30. It's not a full low-gain demo, probably because higher gain is so much fun, but it should give you some idea. The Mini sounds great at lower gain settings--smooth with good sensitivity and break-up but never muddy--very open, with all the bottom and mix-cutting midrange I'll ever want. Always on for me, since I use it primarily as a lower gain OD and run a Blower Box or Grey Stache into it when I want more dirt.

My Blower Box is in! This is definitely one of the coolest looking pedals ever made. It just looks mean and sounds fantastic.

Here's a very interesting sound clip I just did quickly. This is a loop of a little riff with the Blower Box. BUT not just the Blower Box, but the Smallsound/Bigsound Mini. I switch back and fourth between the pedals at random times during the clip, see if you can tell a difference. I will say the Blower Box has a tighter, more focused bottom end. The Mini also has a lot more volume and headroom on tap. The volume on the BlowerBox is maxed, while the Mini is at about half.

hi,
I'm messing arround with this song.

I think I can get that awesome bass with cali 76tx > BB > B7K. But I have a feeling the Bb alone could get it. Suggestions?

(ps: I play a fender jazz into a saml ampeg and 2x SVT210AV... so be gentile.)
Eric

Edit: heheh I wrote saml ampeg instead of small hihih... I'm a senior soa developer/very part time bassist so that typo is funny to me. ;)
