I Present the IdiotBox Effects's Blower Box

Yeah I have to say that the BB has a good output if you are using it a really high gain setting. But for my uses, I was using the gain around noon or one oclock and that is right around where I was having issues. The treble dialed in at all really was way too shrill with my setup and the bass was set around 2 oclock, the BB sounds perfect. It just wasnt cuttin it in the mix as far as output and sitting in the mix and keeping up with rest of the band volume wise. So the boost mod was ideal for me. Now, the BB is seriously perfect for me and my specific setup.

Well noon is high for me, but I play active basses, so that could be why. My settings are always tamer than others to get extreme sounds.

And that's exactly why I hadn't purchased one yet.
I'll probably use it somewhere noonish gain wise.
But the one JohnK modded is probably gonna be perfect for my intended use.

Here's my thoughts on it. With my setup, the gain at noon is about as high as I can go without the pedal over compressing...sounds like a compressor set waaaay to high...but noon is a LOT of gain. It's brutal. With that much gain I can run the output at about 2 o'clock for unity gain. I now set the gain at about 9'oclock for a nice crunch with a ton of bottom then kick in my Bumble to tear the walls down, or kick in my B3K for all out nuclear war. With the gain at 9'oclock, I almost have the volume maxed so I'm on the fence about getting the boost mod. Setting the gain much lower than where I have it now seems to deliver a slightly broken, less full signal so I'm not sure I will need it.

if you listen to it closely, IME, the blower box at very low and minimum gain settings isn't actually all that clean due to the bias of the Jfet. at minimum gain, it's actually is a little dirtier than with it bumped up a tiny bit.I got my clone a bit cleaner by adjusting the bias resistor but it still has a little dirt to it.

I think the B3K is compressed a little more than the BB. I put the BB in between the B3K and the Duality, and it didn't have quite as much punch as it did with the BB before the B3. Even with the bass turned up more. I'm really thinkin' that for me, the BB needs to be in front. The tone I had that way is ridiculously raw and has a ton of booty. I seriously think it was some of the heaviest/bassiest distortion I've ever heard.

I concur!

Ah yeah!!! Look what was in my mailbox waiting for me after my trip to Chapel Hill this weekend. Thanks a million Bongo!!! Perfect pushed tube amp tone in a box and then pushing into ol' Ron FN Swanson is Fuzzy bliss!!!

Mini sounds fantastic on its own and can add some very tasty, mid-forward, mix-cutting sound to the the scooped, doomy rat-crunch of the Blower Box. As far as any need to mod the Blower Box goes, I seem to keep mine dimed, so gain hasn't been an issue.

What could be better than a Blower Box? How about 2 of them!

I got the second one in the mail on Wed. just in time for rehearsal that night.

OK, so here are my initial thoughts…two of these stacked, with them both set to high gain dirt is down right wicked, and bordering on unmanageable.

First one set low gain and second one set high gain, sounds pretty friggen sweet, but reverse that and put the low gain second…it sounds a little choked?

As has been mentioned multiple times already in this thread, this pedal is capable of low gain OD all the way up to high gain paint stripping.

After having them both, and actually being able to A/B the settings on the fly, I think I’m favoring it more with a higher gain setting, I’m going to mess around with it some more over the next week, and I’m also going to bounce it back and forth between my main board and my “economy board”.

Ultimately it might find a permanent home on my second board.

...but there’s a good chance I’ll flip it on my never ending quest for the “always on, ever so slight OD”...

You didn't have feedback issues???

Yup, there was tons of feedback, mostly the unpleasant kind. But when they were set low gain/high gain they played well together.

Up to this point I was using the UD/BB combo for dirt, they sound great together, but the 2 Blowers sounded even better...but it's a lot of pedalboard real estate being used when 2 BB's are on there.

Nice to hear you have similar experience. Now you have me thinking about choke mode I've heard stacked with other pedals, especially muff based. I believe this is my only RAT type i'll have to again surround the BB with Muff and try different gain settings. This time might stack a BB sammich with the Hail Cannabis. Was also considering putting the gamma drive at the end of chain.
