Mine had the boost also. Still didn't cut it. Everyone's experiences may vary of course depending on their setup.
Yeah, even with the boost I found the mid-scoop to be unacceptable.
Yeah I think I would use it a lot more if it wasnt for this issue. I only use it for a song so far and a part here or there every now and then unfortunately. But the stuff I do use it for, I really dig what it brings to the table. Its has its own flare and sound. It certain settings, it is the doomiest dirt I have onboard.
It was designed for a specific sound. I also think live vs recording enters in here. I'm fine with a pedal that records well even if it isn't amazing live. I've yet to play mine in a band setting but I fully expect it to have mix/cut issues. It's not the pedal, it's the nature of high gain.

I think it would sound much better on guitar. Especially for guitarists who like to scoop their mids for those spongy metal tones. My Rat King sounds much more like a RAT. It cuts through the mix in a live setting no problem due to its aggressive mid bump. Not to mention I have two channels one for lower gain and one for high gain madness. Then with the addition of the feedback mod I have a great noise machine with controllable squeals or harmonics.
The BB seems to have its own thing going on for sure. Probably would be a fine studio pedal with all the extra EQing available in mixing.
Personally I don't buy pedals for how well they record but for how well they handle a live setting. Mainly a live setting with two loud guitars and a super loud drummer. You could probably make almost any pedal sound good in a recording. That is what good recording software is for.
My settings are probably a little different. I like the mid cut nature because there's a bit of a mud bump in my Barefaced cabs, so the net effect is a mild scoop.

...and as I mentioned earlier, I've found a BBBOD setting I like to feed into the BB, and that can be used to dial in a touch of mids.

I think you'll like the sound of it better. And regarding the "mid scoop" of the BB, I've never had any problems with it. I only use it at low gain, so that could be it, but if I remember correctly someone was posting graphs of the pedal in certain situations and it wasn't scooped at all, really. At least, not if your bass and treble knobs on the pedal are anywhere near each other.
I'm recording next weekend, and I'm set as a BB into VT Bass as a preamp as my setup. Love how they work together.

The way it cuts through the mix is my second favourite thing about it, after the weight!
Yeah. The tone takes a bit of adjusting to when you first hear it solo, but I think mix-wise is another story.

Not to boast, but I have no trouble with any pedal cuttin' through a mix with the Mesa PH 810. I also have my mids bumped on the graphic EQ of the 400+. I do like the sound of the BB by itself, but I really love using to boost my B3K.

A lot of both really. Haha!!! That's one thing I love about Mesa cabs. The sound comes out and wraps around you. It really does. I've had several people tell me that on different occasions. It really fills up the room. And what's great about it, is that it does this even at low volumes. Mesa was the other cab I was looking at next to FEARLESS. I could see myself getting a 410 or 810 and running the Electric at 4 ohms. Now that, that would be a powerhouse.
