I think Fender is seriously crazy!

I'm gonna submit a "Duff is God" custom designed bass with two strings, four frets, half of a "P Bass" (as you all call it, E and A side) pickup with a little change purse glued on it for the custom designed "DuffPicks"

Remember…it's all about the Benjamin's.

I don't even know where this post comes from. Stop picking on "sub par" bassists. Duff was AWESOME in GnR - just because he didn't perform finger gymnastics on those records doesn't mean he's not good enough for a signature model...

Did you know Fender just put out an Avril Lavigne acoustic? It's clearly about making money, not giving a nod to great musicians. If you can't deal with that, I dunno what to tell ya.

I believe there are also two Avril Lavigne telecasters. They'll probably produce Avril Lavigne P and J basses soon, just because. C'est la vie - like you say, it's money. Don't like, don't buy.

You know my bass is better than your bass cause it costs allot and cheap basses are just cheap basses even if they play and sound as good as that expensive bass you really inside knew you did not need but spent the money on anyhow just to look cool and really make yourself think that this bass sounds great to everybody although only you can hear it.......... thread...:D

I sense a reverse snobbery in play where its constantly insinuated by the low end crowd anyone that owns a nice bass (read :expensive) can't play, doesnt have gigs and are somehow fooled by virtue of owning a nice bass makes them a better player. There is nothing insightful about this same, tired narrative and doesn't mirror my experiences at all.

In the end I don't care what you play but I don't understand why someone else would be so concerned about what someone else paid for their bass. I don't see anyone that owns a Sadowsky or Fender FCS starting threads putting down other players because they play a MIM bass.

The factions could simply get along. We're all trying be the best bassists we can be. This isnt a dick measuring contest about who has the nicest toys or who is "getting it done" with cheap gear.

It's cold and I'm ugly here too.

I have both a used Squier from eBay and a custom boutiquey-type bass with a fancy natural wood top. Therefore, whatever your argument, I still win.

Good instruments for the money - that's an interesting one. Good instruments, definitely. For the money? That depends what else you could get for the same money or cheaper. Over here I'd start to question that, but it's a function of shipping and import duties. When I can go custom for less than a US Fender, I say they're good basses, but not always great value.

I own a Squier bass and a Squier guitar - they're decent enough instruments, and definitely good for the money.

From MIM Fender Classic series basses being over priced to cheap basses being just as good as expensive basses (or not) to signature basses being named after people who don't deserve a signature model. This thread is one wild ride!

Mike, money, Grammy awards and signature models go to people who sell tons of albums (or CDs, or itunes). You can't blame Fender for making use of a valuable marketing strategy. I remember as a kid having a baseball glove that was a Willie Horton signature model. Willie was a great hitter, but a very average fielder. People like home run hitters, though. :)

I guess you're right Woody…I've always been more of a pitch count, pitchers and catchers and putting the runners in motion is more important than a home run hitter that strikes out most of the time type.
