I want a classic (sound) 5 string bass

I will buy at miami guitar center...
I have a musican stingray, I want a bass with a different tone, perhaps a passive bass can give that tone for some songs.
Between the deluxe fender and the standard, wich one has better low b?????the american standard has a more classic sound??
the options I can find at guitar center are:
lakland skyline, mtd, warwick corvette, american standard jazz/precision bass, american deluxe jazz/precision bass.
A guy of my country is selling his fender american deluxe jazz of 1997 for 1600 usd. Are the 1997 model better than the 2009?? in terms of wood, sound, construction?

an 97 american deluxe jazz for 1600 bucks is a total rip. You could buy a brand new one for that price. I'd go with an 08 american standard Jazz 5 string. Not the deluxe,go all passive,or go with the 5 string p bass.

Classic bass tone = passive bass, imo. I really like the American Deluxe Fender's, but in this case, I would suggest an American Standard P. And yes, your friend is not giving you a good price on his used Jazz bass. Pass on that.

The low B on my '08' MIA Fender Jazz V sounds and plays great. Thick, punchy, distinct sounding.

It's going to be pretty much the same. The build quality and hardware are the same.

I have a Stingray as well and my American Precision V is a fantastic complement to the Stingray. The B is pretty nice and the build quality is outstanding. Simply put, I love the tonal range I get out of those two basses.

Actually, I also have a 50th anniversary Jazz Deluxe 5 but it's fretless. Also a very nice bass.

In general, the current crop of USA Fenders seems to be quite well made.

I have a 2008 American Standard Jazz V and the B string is big and rocks. Go for the new Fender over the nineties Fender jazz 5 'er.

I once owned an 1997 Jazz V and the B string wouldn't intonate properly and had dead spots. My experience anyway.

If your looking for a good B String...look lakland. I have been very impressed with every lakie I have played. The JO5 or DJ5 are great!

Now I am between these 3,
warwick corvette (I can buy in Argentina at a similar price range of the us)
fender standard jazz or precision bass (will send someone to buy in miami-guitarcenter, samash, in Argentina is more expensive)
Lakland DJ5 (its the bass I would like but, imposible to find at miami guitar center or samash)

Have you ever played a warwick? You definitely want to play one before you buy as their necks are an acquired taste.

I think the Stingray is the best bass for funk and disco. I need a bass that can do the job for jazz, classic rock, folk and blues.

Never tried them, do you mean they don`t have good playability??

They're extremely thick. Think baseball back cut in half,unless you bought a brand new one. I think it's the latest 09 models the slimmed their necks back down,but I still don't know where they're at for now.

Yea, a double buck is hardly what I would think of as a classic tone.
