Ibanez BTB Club, Part 2!

Hey y'all question for everyone. Has anyone else had issues with the electronics in their BTBs? Mine kept acting up and after replacing the pickups then the preamp I finally traced it to the jack. I ended up replacing that with a standard non locking jack as well to fix it. I ask because I've heard other accounts of the BTB electronics being shoddy in comparison to the rest of the instrument. No worries now with the BTB she's got Delanos and an Aguilar OBp3 in her now and just plain sings. Just curious if anyone else has experienced something similar

I've heard this kind of things before. One thing I do know is that some BTB basses have pickups that are too wide compared with the distance of the strings. So that might be an issue as well.

For the electronics : well, it's possible it's not so very well since it's build by Ibanez itself. There might be a chance that the wirings were not soldered very well. More bass builders have this kind of things.

Mostly it will be gone if you re-solder (don't know if this is the correct word, English isn't my native language :p ) the wiring or change the preamp :)

Hey guys,

I want an Ibanez 6 string bass. I was in a shop comparing a used BTB406 (TX I think) and a new SR1206. I liked the BTB406 a lot, but if I were to get a BTB it would be a new BTB676 NTF.

The BTB406 was noticeably heavier than the SR1206 I tried out, but I read that the BTB676 is lighter than the BTB406 - is this true? I understand it won't be lighter than the SR, which is fine, but I'd like it to be a bit lighter.

Also, the BTB406 had a super glossy neck, which I didn't like. Is the BTB676 NTF neck finish less glossy, preferably a satin finish?

my BTB406 from 2000 also has a glossy neck. however, my BTB500, BTB405 (2002) and my BTB1006 all have satin necks.

looking at the 676, the neck looks satin to me.

i honestly can't tell a weight difference between my 1006 and 406. i would think the 406 vs 676 would be similar, although in this case one is bolt on and the other not, so not sure how much that affects things, if at all.

In my 406 the mid knobs are a bit crackly and the jack socket is also dodgy. However, it doesn't seem to be down to the soldering. Pretty sure the pot is just dirt and that the jack is the jack failing (the solder connections seem fine) - infact, it almost seems like the neutrik socket is slightly too large. So I wonder if it doesn't support the plug all that well, leading to the sprung connectors being exposed to a slightly greater range of movement.

Can anyone with a BTB676 NTF please throw it on a scale and tell me how much it weighs?

I'm very close to ordering one, but weight is an issue. I've read different weight specs and they contradict each other - one is 15.6 pounds, another is 10.4, and a TB'er stating they have a 10lb bass that is light as feather compared to the BTB.

I can't test it out in a store because there doesn't seem to be one available in my whole province.

Thanks

Hey guys. I've been searching far and wide but it seems like I can't find a hard case that will actually fit my BTB 1406e premium 6 string :(. I figured I'd just ask you guys to see if anyone has had any success. I already have a softcase but I want something more durable for protecting my investment since I'm moving soon.

I'm pretty sure this one will fit :)
